New NBCEA principal -
Office of Regional Education and Clergy Development
Rev. Elijah King'ori has been appointed the new principal of Nazarene Bible College of East Africa. He follows the faithful service of the former principal, Miss Kate Mukoko.
Rev. Elijah King'ori

King'ori is a longtime Nazarene, with distinguished service as a pastor, superintendent of the Kenya Eastern District (2002-2012) and NBCEA instructor (1995-2011).  Most recently, he has served as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Religion at Africa Nazarene University (ANU), Nairobi, Kenya.

Rev. King'ori earned the B.Th. and M.A. (Religion) from ANU. His master's study concentrated on teaching and his thesis was defended with distinction. Currently, he is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree through Africa International University (AIU) in Nairobi.

Rev. King'ori brings a deep love for God, the Church of the Nazarene and learning to his new role. He has a passion for the local church and the equipping of ministers. Elijah is married to Martha. They are blessed with three daughters, Gladwel, Faith, and Grace.
Gender-Based Violence (GBV) sensitization workshop in Lodwar - by Daryll Stanton

Africa Nazarene University (ANU) has partnered with Strategic Applications International (SAI) and Nazarene Compassionate (Ministries) Organization (NCO) to provide gender-based violence sensitization in Kenya. On March 27th, this initiative was launched with a workshop at Lodwar in northwestern Kenya.

The key outcome for the one day training was gathering additional necessary

information for an upcoming five-day seminar for leaders in churches, schools and local government.

Twenty-one church leaders, 19 educators and 21 local government leaders participated in this one day workshop. ANU was represented by Mrs. Jane Ngure (chair of the Counseling Psychology department), Daryll Stanton (chair of the Religion department), Beth Wokabi (chair of the Education department), Flora Mwikali (an adjunct lecturer) and Simon Kang'ethe (coordinator of ANU's non-degree programs).

The day was packed with activities, including:

  • An Overview of GBV by Joyce Kimani of IRC
  • How to Deal with Trauma Caused by GBV by Jane Ngure
  • A personal testimony related to GBV by Flora Mwikali
  • Communication of GBV Issues in Schools and Churches by Beth Wokabi
  • GBV and Child Protection by Esther Kimani of CRADLE
  • Identification of Local GBV Issues by Simon Kang'ethe
  • Caring Counseling Skills for Those Affected by GBV by Daryll Stanton.

The 61 participants gave very positive feedback on all the topics, noting they are very relevant in Turkana County and should be taken to the community. Thus, the ANU, SAI and NCO partnership will soon return to the area with the 5-day seminar aimed at (1) creating further awareness on GBV issues; (2) equipping participants with necessary competencies for understanding and dealing with trauma, loss and grief; and (3) developing relevant skills to identify, manage and resolve conflict in the community.

Special music was performed by the NTCCA choir as well as the Zikomo Singers of Lilongwe.

The principal of NTCCA, Rev David W Mosher, and Field Strategy Coordinator Paul Mtambo brought remarks to the class of 2013. Rev. Mtambo said, "People will look for Christ in you. How do they see Christ in you? As you serve. If they see that, they will give you a second diploma - one that says. 'This is the man - or woman - who God sent to us; this is our pastor.'"

The 2013 graduates presented a special song and a reading of the class pledge.

Graduate Nixon Nzunga commented, "This day, to me, was a long awaited and much anticipated day. For me as a graduate it was an unforgettable day. It was like a send off party to go into the mission field and do what the Lord had called me to do."
Welcome to Nassir - by Lisa Johnson
In early April, missionary David Johnson and a newly assigned mission corps volunteer, joined John Yual, mission coordinator for South Sudan, and a team

of international observers on a trip to survey the community of Nassir, South Sudan. In this particularly dry area, people have to walk several kilometers everyday for clean water. The team survey was to determine the feasibility for a solar powered water system and agricultural project.

As the Mission Aviation Fellowship plane landed, and before anyone disembarked from the plane, local Nazarenes greeted

them with singing. They were very grateful the team had come. After traveling to one of the local churches, several of the women and men washed the feet of each of the visitors. This is a custom of the people in the area.  The team was very humbled by their beautiful  greeting and the acts of kindness shown to them while they were there.
New church rising.

There are four Nazarene churches in Nassir, South Sudan. This church is the latest church being built. God is growing his church there and we are very excited to see his hand at work as the lives of the people are being changed. South Sudan is open to Christianity and the Nazarene Church is welcome.

Please pray for John Yual, Mission Coordinator for South Sudan, local pastors, and Church leaders as they endeavor to grow God's Kingdom.
