Worse Flea Season in Years?
-Useful Information on Managing Portland Pet's Biggest Nuisance
In Portland, autumn is a common time for pets to get fleas. Our mild wet climate is perfect for most parasites to thrive, both on our pets and in the environment. As the outside gets colder, fleas will hitch a ride into our warm houses on our pets. So as summer fades, we need to be extra diligent about flea prevention. At Northwest Neighborhood Veterinary Hospital, we offer many different kinds of safe and effective flea preventatives and recommend year-round use. We tailor each pet's needs with the type of product either chewable tablets (Trifexis® and Comfortis®) and/or topical solutions (Frontline® and Revolution®). We also carry Knockout®, a carpet and upholstery spray that kills fleas living in fibers. All furry animals in your household, both dogs and cats, need to be on a preventative. If not treated, fleas can lead to tapeworms, and some pets are allergic to flea bites. Itching and chewing at the skin can hint to a flea problem and flea combs can also be used for visual proof. If you are seeing fleas or want to make sure you never see fleas, please contact us to discuss the treatment or prevention product that's right for you and your pet. To help with flea, heartworm, and internal parasite control, we are currently offering rebates on Frontline®, Revolution®, Trifexis®, Comfortis®, and Heartgard®.
