Many of you know us well enough to know there is always something going on at Second Chance! Whether it's a visit by a U.S. Senator, an award for workforce development excellence, the preservation of some historical treasure, or the large "Art All Night" event we're planning for October, it's never dull around here.
One new item of interest on the retail front is a sort of "pop-up store" within our store. It's a Furniture Showroom called Made in Baltimore because, well, all the goods are made by local furniture makers!
Situated in 1,000 sq ft of space and sponsored by the Industrial Arts Collective, you can get to know the work of several area craftsmen and order one of their unique products or request a custom piece. Second Chance is proud to support the local artisan community who are getting their hands dirty making beautiful, functional items -- sometimes even out of reclaimed materials found in our store. We hope you'll explore the Showroom while it's here the next couple months. It's pretty cool stuff. And hey, why not check out some of our products or donate your own while you're at it?! -Your Second Chance Team

TRANSFORMATION TIP
As you know, we offer tons (literally!) of reclaimed wood that our deconstruction crews salvage from old structures. Many of you use it in your DIY projects. If you're making a special piece for your home, consider this approach to cleaning and preparing the wood for your new creation. (Many more tips available here.)

LUMBER REUSE
What do you do when you've accumulated a bunch of unusable lumber over years? Dump it in a landfill? No! Make mulch...a LOT of mulch! After another pass through the shredder, look for this mulch to help with erosion and weed control while beautifying the landscape around our "Gateway to Baltimore" campus.
|
CUSTOMER CREATION
We love when a customer takes something like a discarded window (far left) from our Freecycle Tent and upcycles it into a thing a beauty (far right)! One less window heading to the landfill and one more beautified home, thanks to some vision and elbow grease!
(Lots more upcycling ideas here.)
