What is Spring if not "newness?" We embrace the new sights and smells and revel in the renewed light and life. The burst of natural energy seems to sweep us out of our winter slumber and into a season of vigor.

While we at Second Chance certainly haven't been hibernating, we're nonetheless rejuvenated as the sleepy world wakes up in the warming weather. This new season presents the opportunity to reinforce our commitment to provide meaningful second chances to people, material and the environment. And we're doing just that!
While you peruse this newsletter, take note of all that's "new" - new opportunities, partnerships, press, successes and products. As you continue to shop, donate and volunteer, we'll be invigorated to face new challenges and seize new opportunities with extra "spring" in our step! Marching on with you,
-Your Second Chance Team

NEW YOUTH WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Thanks to support from Associated Black Charities and the Baltimore Mayor's Office of Employment Development, at least twenty Baltimore youth will be introduced to the fields of deconstruction, retail, transportation and warehousing at Second Chance.
"Introduction to the Workforce" is a 12-week, full-time, paid internship. It includes classroom and hands-on training in job and life skills, as well as industry-recognized certifications in forklift operation and workplace safety.
Program participants are "Opportunity Youth" ages 18 - 24 who are not employed or enrolled in school. Several members of our first cohort of interns came to us through a program for homeless youth or a halfway house for youthful offenders. When you support us, you support them!

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Wow, have we ever been blessed with volunteers! Just in the last several weeks we've been energized by the bright smiles, warm hearts and helping hands of individuals and groups like Volunteering Untapped, B-More Engaged, Americorps, Loyola University, the University of South Dakota, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, the University of Northern Iowa, and Johns Hopkins University. Thanks all!

GIVING BACK Old Products = New Classroom
We were privileged to donate wood and a bathtub that volunteers turned into raised planting beds in the courtyard of Baltimore's Samuel F. B. Morris School! When some of the kids were asked what they wanted to grow, four boys piped up: "Flowers for my mom!"
