February 2015
 Issue No. 47

Have you grown tired of the same ole stuff? Ready to break up with something you own? Rather than "dump" it into a cold, heartless landfill, consider giving somebody else the chance to love it this Valentine's season!

Second Chance, Inc. is proud to be a matchmaker for old doors and windows, hardware and tools, ironwork and mantles, and even gently used furniture.  If you have building materials, kitchen appliances, bathroom fixtures, tubs, sinks, accessories, lighting or unique architectural items in good to excellent condition, please consider donating them to us.  Working vehicles are welcome, too.  We even accept entire houses that are slated for demolition, which we then deconstruct as part of our green-collar workforce development program.

Donating pays dividends!  Not only will you benefit from a tax deduction, but you'll be contributing to the growth of an organization that is changing lives through job training, salvaging our regional architectural history, saving consumers money, and protecting the planet through waste stream diversion.

It's a five-for-one deal that's hard to beat!

While your drop-off donations of quality items are welcome at our warehouse from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily, on-site pick-ups typically occur between 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.  To request a pick-up, simply fill out this form. Please describe the condition of your item(s) and attach a picture(s), since it's important that we accept items we can sell.

Don't have any items to donate? If it's in your heart to make a financial contribution to help us Retrain, Reclaim and Renew, simply click the image below to be taken to a secure place to donate via credit card, bank check or PayPal account.

Whether or not you can contribute goods or money right now, we are grateful for the love you show us whenever you shop, donate, volunteer, embrace deconstruction, and spread the word about us!
WE YOU!

COOL CUSTOMER CREATION
Kudos to the customer who salvaged this old wood from our free "last chance" pile out front and turned it into these character-laden decorative frames!

REUNITED
  'CAUSE IT FEELS SO GOOD!
We regularly find unique items while deconstructing homes and salvaging contents. Occasionally, we can even reunite one of these treasures with its original owner. Such is the case with this weathered accounting ledger used by the Mount Vernon Place Church in Baltimore. It is nearly 100 years old, and the church was delighted when we recently returned it! Neat, huh?
Among other things like the new arrivals below,
in 2014 we sold these salvaged and donated items below retail cost to be reused or repurposed instead of discarded and dumped in the landfill:

1,100 appliances
1,400 tables
1,700 windows
3,300 chairs
3,700 doors
8,000 cabinets
14,000 bricks
53,000 square feet of flooring
347,000 linear feet of lumber

Not bad, eh?
