February 27, 2014 Issue No. 40

Second Chance Inc. maintains a keen interest in providing life and vocational training to those who may have experienced past barriers to meaningful employment.  This "second chance" is a core, unwavering component of our mission and history. Our workforce development efforts lie mostly behind the scenes, but they're happening every day!

For instance, we're proud of the 40+ deconstruction employees and trainees who participated in another recent life and vocational skills enhancement day, which included a popular financial literacy seminar courtesy of BB&T.  That was followed by an offsite graduation ceremony of 11 trainees who completed a rigorous course of classroom and field training!.  WAY TO GO!  (Click here to see a summary of the multifaceted benefits of their deconstruction work.)

You help provide meaningful second chances to individuals, and thereby their families and communities, whenever you donate, shop, volunteer, give to, and share about Second Chance.  As you look at the smiles pictured above (click for larger images), please know that we're all grateful for it!

Window to Headboard!

Check out what our customer Tracie Velton did:
"Here's the before and after of my 150 year old window-turned AMAZING headboard from Second Chance! I love your store!"  And we love your repurposing work!  (More reuse ideas here.)
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Giving Back

Second Chance has a rich history of contributing space and materials to the arts, fellow nonprofits, neighborhood groups, faith communities, sustainable events, and others working for the common good.

This week, we were glad to be able to put a smile on the faces of
Captain Danner and the firefighters of Bush Street Firehouse in Baltimore by donating seating for their kitchen. Thanks for all you guys do!
Next month, we're pleased to donate meeting space for our friends at The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) to hold their Wine Tasting benefit event in our new York Room! Click the image to learn more, because tickets are almost gone!  (Update: Sold Out!)
