Greetings!
One of the fastest growing trends in the home building industry is actually not building at all. It is "unbuilding" or deconstruction -- carefully taking apart a structure to reclaim its reusable materials. Central to the Second Chance mission is deconstructing homes that are entering the demolition phase. With landfill space in high demand and consumers embracing "green values," home deconstruction is the wave of the future. (See the Wall Street Journal article link to your right.)
Beyond the environmental edge, people also enlist Second Chance to deconstruct because of the substantial tax benefit they receive. Homeowners donate their house to us for use in training our deconstruction employees -- most of whom have faced significant barriers to employment and are looking for a "second chance." The homeowner can then count the materials value of their home as a tax deduction. It is truly a win-win-win when materials are saved from the landfill, homeowners have a financial benefit and lives are positively changed!

Many of our clients are referred to us by builders and architects who embrace our philosophy and understand the financial benefit to their clients. Second Chance deconstructs 100+ homes each year, and we travel the east coast from Connecticut to Florida bringing the reclaimed materials back to our warehouse at 1700 Ridgely Street in Baltimore. The next product you purchase for your project may have very well come from a home in Delaware, D.C. or Daytona!
Springing forward with you,
P.S. See more photos & videos of deconstruction in action on Facebook and Pinterest!
