January 10, 2013 Issue No. 31
Greetings!

With each new year comes new beginnings, and there's been plenty of positive change in the Second Chance world!  For one thing, in 2012 we realized our dream of having all retail, training and administrative operations centralized under one roof.  At 200,000 sq. feet, it's quite a BIG roof; yet it has -- and will in years ahead -- provide a strategic base of operations for greater service. If you haven't visited us yet at 1700 Ridgely Street, we'd love to see you soon!

Beyond the numerous facility-related improvements, which will continue in earnest for some time to come, 2012 was a banner year in many other ways. To give you some insight into our successes, we're pleased to report the following approximate statistics:

  • 150,000 Labor Hours Created
  • $3,200,000 Consumer Dollars Saved
  • 11,000,000 Pounds of Waste Diverted from Landfills
  • 60 Adults and 20 Teens Received Vocational and Life-Skills Training
  • 5,000 Volunteer Hours Utilized -- e.g., from Dickenson College, the Neighborhood Design Center and T. Rowe Price via Business Volunteers United
  • Expanded East Coast Influence - e.g., deconstruction now done in MD, DC, VA, DE, PA, WV, OH, NJ, NY, MA, CT, FL
  • Expanded Donor Relationships -- e.g., now Working with 8 Retirement Communities
  • Over 1250 Donation Pick-ups (along with numerous daily drop-offs at the store)
  • Featured in a Dozen Public Press Pieces -- e.g., see the Voice of America article in the column to your right

Let's celebrate these milestones together, because none of this would be possible without your support.  And as you continue to donate, shop, volunteer, give, and share about Second Chance, we anticipate even broader impact in the year ahead!

Here's to a great 2013 for all of us and those we serve....   -Your Second Chance Team

We've got lots in....and it just keeps coming!   Dimensional pieces, flooring, big beams, standard cuts, even some "old growth" lumber.  With the recent spike in wood prices, it pays to shop our warehouse first!
Partnership Highlight

For the past 2 & 1/2 years we have been proud to partner with the unique organization Let's Move! At least weekly we coordinate a seamless donation-retrieval process for their relocating clients.  We receive great inventory and they receive a tax deduction and peace of mind that their belongings are providing second chances.
