Greetings!
Second Chance is about changing lives for the better! So, we're always delighted when we can hear (and share) directly from those we (you and us) have helped help themselves.
Antonio is a shining example. He has been an employee here for over four years and has exerted a positive influence on countless employees and customers in his years as a retail manager. Here is a taste of Antonio's story...in his own words:
Poverty was a major issue for me. Growing up I could not afford the basic necessities required to survive. As a result I did things that hindered me from becoming successful.
For example, due to poverty I was not educated about safe sex. At the age of fourteen I conceived my first child. I didn't want her to experience my hardships, so I began to set forth some positive goals for myself and set a positive example for my children.
Second Chance gave me the opportunity to expand my potential and excel to higher positions. This organization has helped me reach into my inner self and grasp a part of me that I never knew existed.
Because of high rates of joblessness and incarcerations among urban black men, success is very rare. I knew if I didn't strive for the best I would never see positive results. For the four years I've worked for Second Chance, I've been an inspiration to everyone I came in contact with. It makes me feel good to know I can make people smile, and it lets me know I'm doing an outstanding job.
I've learned how to communicate on a professional level, be responsible, reliable and dedicated. I became a supportive fiance, a superior father of six, and a well-mannered and respectful gentleman. Second Chance has been nothing but great to me and my family.
...and Antonio, you've been nothing but great to those you serve and serve with!
You can read this story at Great Nonprofits, where you can leave a review of your own if you'd like. You can also see Antonio's picture and read more of his inspirational story in the GiveCorps block just below this article. Through GiveCorps you have an opportunity to equip two more "Antonios" to succeed.
Remember that Antonio represents many other men and women, all of whom you support when you support Second Chance. Thanks again for doing just that!
