Hello Friend -
With Thanksgiving just a week away, we are entering what's commonly referred to as "The Holiday Season." Have you noticed the lights and decorations already starting to line stores and dot landscapes? They are promises of special times ahead!
Hiding in the shadows of the "big holidays" are a few lesser known observances that can easily be overlooked. For instance, did you know that Tuesday was National Philanthropy Day? Yep, for the 24th year November 15 was set aside to recognize the great contributions that philanthropy has made to our lives, our communities and our world.
The official website aptly states: "What makes philanthropy so special is that no one is required to give of themselves. There are no national laws or regulations which mandate that you must volunteer or get involved. Philanthropy is so powerful and inspiring precisely because it is voluntary--that through the goodness of our hearts, through our need to connect, through our desire to see a better world, we come together to improve the quality of life for all people."
Even if you missed it, you can still get in on the philanthropic action by supporting Second Chance's green-collar workforce development efforts. Your donation helps outfit two unemployed Baltimore residents with all the tools they need to succeed in the blossoming deconstruction trades. To contribute or learn more, please visit our project page at GiveCorps. In the spirit of giving, you'll receive a valuable coupon from a local merchant with every gift of $10 or more!
Although Second Chance will be closed on Thanksgiving (and later Christmas) Day, we will be open on the two "lesser celebrated holidays" that follow--Black Friday and Small Business Saturday. These present another opportunity to be a philanthropist, because every dollar you spend in our stores goes to create jobs, improve lives, and sustain our environment. In gratitude to our customers, we're giving back by offering special deals during those days. You can even pick up a Second Chance gift card for someone while you're here!
Whatever days you celebrate over these next few weeks, we hope to see you in person. After all, you don't need a holiday for an excuse to shop our stores...every day is a good day to visit!
Whatever the day, make it a good one....
-Your Second Chance Team
