Hello Friend -
With Halloween behind us and Thanksgiving ahead, we hope you're enjoying this festive autumn season. We sure are! In fact, one of Second Chance's core values is "Have Fun." Here's how we explain this: "We spend our time doing a good thing and we want to have a good time doing it." Customers often say they pick up a hint of this whimsical playfulness when they spend time strolling through our retail wonderland and interacting with our staff. We like that, because we figure smiling and shopping should go hand-in-hand!
While we try not to take ourselves too seriously, we sure do take our meaningful mission seriously. In case you're new to Second Chance--or just haven't heard it in a while--here's a snapshot of what drives us as an organization:
"The Second Chance mission is to retrain and create employment for displaced and unemployed workers in deconstruction methods; reclaim building material to reduce demolition debris overloading landfills; and renew materials to preserve the region's rich architectural heritage. As a result, Second Chance provides jobs and a green collar workforce, protects the natural environment, and preserves our architectural heritage."
Does that little summary help explain why we say "we spend our time doing a good thing and we want to have a good time doing it"? You join in that "good thing" whenever you patronize our stores and donate to our work. In fact, we couldn't do it without you! So put on that fall sweater and pay us a visit soon. We think you'll have a good time doing it!

Outfit New Trainees for a Second Chance!
Your tax-deductible gift helps outfit two unemployed Baltimore residents with the tools they need to succeed in the deconstruction trades: safety certifications (OSHA), tools, uniforms, boots, Life Skills, and guaranteed employment upon graduation.

We are just 11% of the way toward our goal and have a month left to meet it. Would you consider making a donation through GiveCorps to enjoy the satisfaction of changing lives while helping develop a green-collar workforce? You'll also receive a different Gift Coupon from a local business with every donation!

Composting is nature's way of recycling! If you live or travel near Baltimore's Fell's Point on Saturday mornings, you've got a great option to participate. On your way to the local Farmers Market or across town to the Second Chance warehouses, you can deposit your food scraps and garden waste in the bin in front of Bertha's between 8:30AM - 11:30AM. No plastic bags please.
