Above all these benefits stands our leading core value - "People First."  Below you'll read about one of these people.  Antonio is an impressive young man who has embraced the second chance given him through our organization.

While you peruse the new inventory featured to the right, remember that every dollar spent ultimately bolsters our workforce development programs.  In turn, lives like Antonio's are changed for the better.

The Baltimore area is filled with Antonios who deserve and would seize an honest opportunity at a solid career.  Together, we can continue to provide it to them.  We all sincerely appreciate your partnership in doing just that!

Come visit us soon....you can shake Antonio's hand while enjoying a trip through the salvaged wonderland he manages!

Another Second Chance Success Story

"Antonio's Journey"

by Lynda McClary

Raised lovingly by his grandmother, Antonio was still not able to avoid the lure of the tough streets in his neighborhood and the hurt caused by physical abuse from a troubled father and drug addicted parents.  After five gunshot wounds received over several incidents and during his final incarceration period, he got in touch with the part of himself that his grandmother already knew existed - Antonio was really a good person making bad choices.

At thirty years old, following two stints in jail for non-violent crimes, starting when he was eighteen, Antonio came to Second Chance to get his first full-time job in the warehouse. There were no openings in the Deconstruction Job Training program, recommended by his brother, because Second Chance was so small at that time and could only handle five men in the program.  Instead, Antonio threw himself into learning everything he could about the retail and warehouse operations at Second Chance.

Second Chance challenged him to tap into his potential and then they gave him the opportunity and purpose to transform that potential into meaningful commitment and progress. He proved to everyone - himself, family, work colleagues, managers and customers alike - that he was not living in the past with regret, but moving forward with "loyalty, honesty, and creating his own conditions of good."

Antonio is an enormous asset to Second Chance, whether talking with customers or supervising operations within the warehouse.  He is a proud father and fiancé who shares his lessons with Youth Ministry so others can learn about good choices and second chances. Three short years after coming to Second Chance, and five promotions later, Antonio is the Manager of Warehouse 3.  He knows he is now living up to his grandmother's vision of him with all his good decisions.

"Second Chance is like Disney World for the DIY homeowner. The non-profit organization gives new life to often discarded and forgotten antiques. Its four warehouses are filled with thousands of special finds like ceramic drawer pulls, stained-glass windows, and gilded faucets from historic Baltimore mansions." (p.197)
