Genuine partnership, prayers and hope for the long haul in Haiti
In June 2015 the Canadian government renewed its commitment to long-term development in Haiti. MCC is also deeply committed to Haiti, working alongside local partners there since the 1950s. Haiti continues to struggle with ongoing challenges: political instability and corruption, extreme poverty and deforestation, susceptibility to earthquakes and hurricanes, and tensions around upcoming elections.
| Ted & Katharine Oswald of MCC Haiti |
Working alongside local partners through development and advocacy, however, we see real hope for Haiti. Ted and Katharine Oswald, MCC Haiti's policy and advocacy workers were in Ottawa last week meeting with MP offices, government officials, and local Mennonite leaders. Their goal was to encourage continued engagement in Haiti--engagement that fosters sustainable development, genuine partnership, peace and good governance-- and to bring a message of hope on behalf of our partners. They also encouraged ongoing prayer for the people of Haiti.

New resource: Intersections
The Great Lakes region of central Africa (the countries grouped around Lake Victoria and Lake Tanganyika) has seen its share of conflict, but did you know it is also home to a growing community of peacebuilders, researchers, teachers, civil society actors, and citizen activists all working to re-establish and maintain peace? Find out more by reading the summer issue of Intersections, MCC's quarterly publication on theory and practice.
