WE NEED YOU TO DONATE & PITCH IN!

Help WPRA stop Metro's plan to build a 710 tunnel under west Pasadena

WPRA continues to assemble a team to analyze and respond to the SR-710 Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) and Statement (DEIS), which Metro has said it will release this month (February). While we're fortunate to have found many of the special skills we need to accomplish this highly complex task, we still need help from those with knowledge of the following areas:

  • Paleoseismology
  • Biological assessment (Arroyo Seco and Hahamongna/Flora and fauna)
  • General construction
  • Economic impact
  • Land use

The WPRA Neighborhood Protection Fund has been reactivated to raise the resources necessary to respond to the 710 tunnel plan. Please consider donating.

Be part of this vital effort to stop what many believe would be a catastrophe for our community and lifestyle. To volunteer or recommend an expert, contact Sarah Gavit at gavit@wpra.net.

Hundreds attend WPRA-hosted Mayoral Candidates Forum

All six candidates running to replace Bill Bogaard as the next Mayor of Pasadena participated in the WPRA's candidates forum. The event took place at the Richard H. Chambers Appeals Courthouse on Jan. 27. The candidates, responding to questions by WPRA board members Kenyon Harbison and Justin Chapman, discussed important issues facing West Pasadena and the city, such as the 710 tunnel, the looming lack of a public school in West Pasadena, Rose Bowl events, the embezzlement of $6.4 million in public funds, neighborhood crime, policing and respect for citizen involvement. All six candidates said they opposed the tunnel option. Visit the WPRA's YouTube channel to watch a video of the forum, and click here to read coverage of the event by the Pasadena Star-News. KPAS/Pasadena Media also covered the event.

SURVEY:

Share your views about Pasadena's urban forest

The Pasadena Department of Public Works is updating and consolidating the City's public tree management practices, guidelines for tree protection and information on tree ordinances into one document. This document, the Urban Forestry Master Plan, will include a strategic vision to enable the City to set goals and objectives. As an initial step, the City has developed a 10-minute online survey to help its Urban Forestry staff gauge the public's opinions. The survey will be available until February 17. The Urban Forestry Advisory Committee is also holding a community meeting to gather more input from residents at their regular meeting on February 11 at 6 p.m. at City Yards, located at 233 W. Mountain St.

For additional information, please contact the Pasadena Citizen Service Center at (626) 744-7311.

This spring, Water and Power will expand this online guide to the classroom in a series of free landscaping workshops.

This fun and engaging exhibition for all ages includes historic photographs, artworks and artifacts from Pasadena Museum of History's extensive collection. Ann retired after a 38-year career in advertising and public relations, which included many years as public information officer of the City of Pasadena. Among her current activities, which she collects under the heading "professional gadabout," is service as a co-editor of Neighborhood Update.
