On the agenda: Authorization to enter into a $55.6 million contract for labor and materials for design and construction of the Glenarm repowering project; recommended electric rate increases and changes to electric rate structure; and continued public hearings on Fiscal Year 2015 recommended operating budget, general fee schedule and schedule of taxes, fees and charges.

WPRA Board of Directors meeting
The public is welcome to the West Pasadena Residents' Association Board of Directors meeting Wednesday, June 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Westridge School Community Room. Agenda items include Metro's SR-710 proposal, Avenue 64 improvements and the Orange Grove Circle development plan that was recently withdrawn by the developer.

Be prepared for traffic Saturday, May 31, during the Boy Scout Youth Expo that is expected to bring 15,000 scouts, scout leaders, families, business leaders and the local community to the Rose Bowl Stadium.

Pasadena residents get free entry to celebrity golf tournament
Kimberly Senella, tournament director at Brookside Golf Club, announced yesterday that Pasadena residents will be welcome as spectators for free at the LAPD Memorial Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament and Family Festival Saturday, May 31, at Brookside Golf Course beginning with a 9:45 a.m. police helicopter flyover. The golf tournament begins at 10 a.m. Park free at the golf course's Lot 3. Be prepared for traffic in the area. 

 

Pasadena Heritage has a full schedule of walking tours and other activities designed to educate, entertain and highlight Pasadena's history and architecture in celebration of National Preservation Month. Explore Busch Gardens and the Rose Villa neighborhood, learn how to research and document your historic property and more through May 31.

Police motorcycle rodeo is free to spectators
More than 100 motorcycle officers from Southern California police agencies will compete in the Pasadena Police Motor Competition Thursday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Lot F at the Rose Bowl Stadium. Spectators are welcome and food will be available for purchase.

Music festival in Old Pasadena, Playhouse District expected to draw thousands
Make Music Pasadena will feature 150 musical acts rotating on stages throughout Old Pasadena and the Playhouse District Saturday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Public meetings on draft EIR for Rose Bowl Music Festival
Scoping meetings are planned Thursday, June 12, at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 14, at 10 a.m. regarding the draft environmental impact report on the proposed Rose Bowl Music Festival that could be scheduled as early as June 2015.

Repair of Holly Street Bridge  

The Pasadena Public Works Department is reconstructing a concrete retaining wall and repairing the eroded portion of slope on the southeast side of the Holly Street Bridge. The project is expected to be completed June 10. Holly Street will be closed from Linda Vista Avenue to about 100 feet east of the Holly Street Bridge. Access for residents who live on Holly Street will be maintained throughout the project. Other aspects of the project include curb and gutter, driveway approach and roadway pavement.

Five new developments to bring new life to Playhouse District
"The Playhouse District is under construction, and in the next few years five new developments with more than 46,000 square feet of retail space will spring up and bring more people and activity to the area." Pasadena Star-News

$1B river plan gains federal backing
"Mayor Eric Garcetti and representatives of the Army Corps of Engineers announced Thursday that the corps will urge Congress to approve a a $1 billion plan to restore parts of the Los Angeles River, as advocated by city leaders." Pasadena Star-News

If you'd like to serve your community and do it with a group of your neighbors who are equally dedicated, the WPRA encourages you to join your neighborhood residents' association. If you live within our service area, we'd welcome your help. 

  • Got the local news bug? Just curious about your city (and would like to share news with 1,000 or so of your closest friends), consider serving as a co-editor of Neighborhood Update. It will only take a few hours a week (on your own schedule) in the month or two a year in which you'd serve. We'll train you.
