 Council to consider authorizing
18th major 2014 Rose Bowl event

The Pasadena City Council will convene a special meeting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 to consider authorizing what would be the 18th scheduled major "displacement" event in 2014 at the Rose Bowl Stadium. The event, which would be held on August 2, is a Jay-Z and Beyonce concert.

Review the agenda

The Rose Bowl Operating Company (RBOC) has recommended City Council authorize the additional event and enable Rose Bowl Stadium General Manager Daryl Dunn to issue a permit to Live Nation for the concert and sound checks on August 1 between Noon and 10 p.m. and on August 2 between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. This would be the sixth concert in 2014, which, according to the City staff report, would be the most in any calendar year in the history of the stadium.

Dunn conservatively estimated that the concert would net the stadium up to $400,000, according to Pasadena Now.

BACKGROUND: On February 6, the RBOC recommended that City Council increase the allowable displacement 2014 events from 12 to 18. City Council approved the request on February 10. At that time, only 17 of the permissible 18 displacement events had been identified.

Although the WPRA has not yet taken a position on the topic, we encourage those who are interested to attend the meeting and share their views.
