The Pasadena Public Health Department encourages everyone to focus on health, healthy eating, exercise and a healthy lifestyle during National Public Health Week, celebrated this year April 7-13, 2014.

The recent earthquakes in March 2014 that have rattled much of Southern California serve as important reminders for everybody to be prepared now for disasters and emergencies at home, at work and in your cars.

Safely dispose of old computers, keyboards, printers, scanners, fax machines, phones, TVs, VCRs and other electronic equipment and have personal documents shredded at the free eWaste event Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Parking Lot I at Brookside Park. You can also bring old batteries (vehicle batteries will not be accepted).

El Molino entrance to the Vroman's parking lot is closing
New construction behind Vroman's main bookstore on Colorado Boulevard means a few changes. For years, Vroman's has leased the parking spaces between the movie theater and the office building, but these spaces are no longer available, and the El Molino entrance to the parking lot behind Vroman's will be closed permanently. Handicap parking spots have been relocated. Construction will be going on for the next 18 months.

"For the first time in more than a decade, five NASA Earth-observing missions will be launched into space in a single year. To celebrate this milestone, NASA is inviting people all around the world to step outside on Earth Day, April 22, take a "selfie," and share it with the world on social media. Designed to encourage environmental awareness and recognize the agency's ongoing work to protect our home planet, NASA's "Global Selfie" event asks people everywhere to take a picture of themselves in their local environment."
