On the agenda: Certificate of appropriateness for major change to the primary façade at 280 S. Hill Ave. (District 7); and certificate of appropriateness for demolition of a non-original portion of the street-faciing façade of the house and a slightly larger addition in its place at 6 Richland Place (District 1).

On the agenda: Recommended 2015-2019 Capital Improvement Program; update on residential impact fees nexus study; support of a design for improvements to Linda Vista Park; and update on General Plan draft goals and policies.

On the agenda: Minor variance to allow a guard rail fence on top of an existing retaining wall to exceed the allowable fence height of four feet within a designated front yard area and minor variance to allow a new eight-foot-tall driveway gate to exceed the maximum allowable height of four feet at 1399 Fairlawn Way.

March 1 is deadline for buying Rose Bowl Stadium bricks

If you'd like to purchase a Rose Bowl Stadium brick, note that the initial brick installation is slated for this summer; bricks must be purchased by Saturday, March 1. Bricks may still be purchased after this date, but they will not be installed until 2015.

 

Sister Cities pioneers to be honored

Pioneers of the five Pasadena Sister Cities subcommittees - Ludwigshafen, Germany; Mishima, Japan; Jäärvenpää, Finland; Vanadzor, Armenia; and Xicheng, Beijing, China - will be honored Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m. with plaques installed at the Pasadena Sister Cities monument in the plaza between the Pasadena Conference Center and the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. A reception will follow across the street at Camille's Sidewalk Café. Come learn more about the Pasadena Sister Cities program!

 

Street resurfacing project continues through April

The City of Pasadena will be resurfacing specific streets through April. During this process, street segments listed below may be partially or totally closed to traffic; parking will be prohibited between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The City of Pasadena will send notices to residences, businesses and neighborhood associations, as well as more specific guidance to residents and businesses directly affected by the street resurfacing. Note: To avoid damaging your vehicle, don't drive in these areas while work is in progress. Also, everyone is urged not to walk on the hot asphalt or allow water from a sprinkler system, for example, to run down gutters or into streets while work is in progress. For more information contact the Pasadena Public Works Department at (626) 744-4720 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. In case of an after-hours emergency, call (626) 744-4241.

Regarding the proposed closure of San Rafael School due to an earthquake fault which runs under the original school building, surely there are ways to find the funds to keep the school at its present location. Pasadena Star-News

If you'd like to serve your community and do it with a group of your neighbors who are equally dedicated, the WPRA encourages you to join your neighborhood residents' association. If you live within our service area, we'd welcome your help. 

  • Got the local news bug? Just curious about your city (and would like to share news with 1,000 or so of your closest friends), consider serving as a co-editor of Neighborhood Update. It will only take a few hours a week (on your own schedule) in the month or two a year in which you'd serve. We'll train you.
