130 years of yeading in Pasadena   

Join the festivities Saturday, Jan. 18, at 3 p.m. at Pasadena Central Library, 285 E. Walnut St., as they kick off a year-long celebration to commemorate 130 years of reading in Pasadena. Enjoy music, historical exhibits, a special cake and much more!  Events and activities at all Pasadena public libraries will be announced soon.     

 

Comment period extended for Devil's Gate sediment removal EIR

Due to the high volume of content in the Devil's Gate Reservoir Sediment Removal and Management Project Draft EIR and requests for additional time to review the document, the L.A. County Department of Public Works has extended the deadline for comments to Tuesday, Jan. 21 - an additional 15 days, and 90 days in total. Comments emailed to reservoircleanouts@dpw.lacounty.gov or mailed or faxed will be included in the final EIR.  

 

State of the City 

The theme of Mayor Bill Bogaard's State of the City event Thursday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m. in the new Center for the Arts at Pasadena City College is Arts+Innovation=Pasadena.     

 

City of Pasadena customer service options
A new customer service call center will be in operation 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning Jan. 24. Call (626) 744-7311 to request a service, report issues related to streets, street trees, parks, graffiti, abandoned vehicles and more, or to ask questions about any City of Pasadena program or service. If you prefer a self-service option, visit www.cityofpasadena.net/csc.   

 

Japanese garden reopens 

The historic, peaceful Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden was closed in December and is once again open to the public the last Sunday of every month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Make your $7.50 reservation for Jan. 26 online. Children 12 and under are free.

WPRA signs MOU regarding Rose Bowl Stadium Donor Plaza 
The WPRA, along with the East Arroyo Neighborhood Association and Linda Vista~Annandale Association, has signed an extension to a memorandum of understanding with the City of Pasadena to mitigate construction impacts, such as truck traffic and noise, related to improvements to the Rose Bowl Stadium Donor Plaza outside Gate A, the parkway (driveways) and median strip leading up to the plaza and the area east of the parkway, generally referred to as Area H.

Pasadena faces worsening drought

If you'd like to serve your community and do it with a group of your neighbors who are equally dedicated, the WPRA encourages you to join your neighborhood residents' association. If you live within our service area, we'd welcome your help. 

  • Got the local news bug? Just curious about your city (and would like to share news with 1,000 or so of your closest friends), consider serving as a co-editor of Neighborhood Update. It will only take a few hours a week (on your own schedule) in the month or two a year in which you'd serve. We'll train you.  
  • We have lots of opportunities to serve on one of our many committees:
    • Land use and planning
      If you care about how we use our land  
    • Education
      If you want to help save public education for West Pasadena  
    • Open space & conservation
      If you care about preserving open space and conservation of land and resources 
    • Membership
      If you'd like to help us continue to build our membership so we can do more
