WPRA seeks solution to Avenue 64 traffic danger
Yet another serious accident occurred on Avenue 64 this past Monday evening, this time near the Burleigh Drive intersection. Although stop signs were erected a few years ago on Avenue 64, many think they only created a false sense of security. The main challenge to fixing the problem is that any solution requires agreement between Los Angeles and Pasadena: LA is on the west side of Avenue 64 and Pasadena on the east side. Worse, the boundary cuts across the intersection. After being alerted by area residents, the WPRA has asked Bob Holmes, board secretary, to coordinate the WPRA involvement. He will confer with area residents and public officials to help find a solution. Stand by for more.
710 Survey

Poll shows definite lack of enthusiasm for Alhambra's "710 Day"
On July 10, the City of Alhambra is planning to hold a "710 Day" in support of the 710 Freeway extension plans. While many of us may be unable to attend the "celebration" (it's being held on a Wednesday afternoon), many registered their opposition to the freeway extension plan by answering a poll in the Alhambra Source.Of 243 votes, 14% were in favor of the celebration and "710 Day," compared with 76% who opposed the festival  and the freeway expansion.

Rose Bowl fire alarm testing

The Rose Bowl Stadium will perform fire alarm testing on Monday, June 24.

Phos-Chek application at Rose Bowl

About 14,000 gallons of Phos-Chek will be applied next week to the brush areas near Seco and the west southwest corner of the Rose Bowl as a preventive measure to mitigate potential fire hazards from the July 4th Americafest event. The main ingredients of Phos-Chek are phosphates and fertilizers, which also help revegetate areas after a fire is out.

Free e-waste collection and document shredding event

Residents and businesses can safely dispose of electronic waste and shred personal documents - at no cost - at the City's "Electronic Waste Collection Event" from 9 am to 3 pm, Saturday, June 22 at the Rose Bowl.

Celebrate Pasadena's 127th and the Colorado Street bridge's 100th
You're invited to a special double celebration this year as the Pasadena Museum of History and the City team up for "Happy Birthday Pasadena: Celebrating Bridges" on Saturday, June 22 from 1-5 p.m. The event marks Pasadena's 127th birthday and the 100th anniversary of the Colorado Street Bridge.

Lather to share sales with Pasadena Community Gardens

On Saturday, June 22, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., 25% of all product sales at Lather, 17 E. Colorado Blvd., will go to Pasadena Community Gardens (PCG). The funds will help PCG build a public community garden at 721 S. Pasadena Ave. Earlier this year, Lather, a Pasadena-based natural-ingredients beauty company, launched the partnership with PCG by hosting a "Giving Tree" fundraising promotion, which continues to October. PCG UPDATE: The approximately 55 Pasadena residents who are members of the community garden are now completing the site preparation and expect an early fall opening.

City schedules General Plan information meeting
A public General Plan community information meeting focusing on the Land Use and Mobility elements will be held on Thursday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Pasadena Presbyterian Church's Gamble Lounge, 585 E. Colorado Blvd. City staff will present the direction given by the City Council to study changes to the General Plan. Planners will share the background on what an environmental impact report (EIR) typically studies, describe how a General Plan EIR is different from other kinds of EIRs, and share news of future opportunities to provide input during the environmental review process. Although the meeting is not part of the environmental review process, staff will record any initial thoughts on subjects the environmental impact report should study.

City advises celebrating citizens to enjoy the Fourth safely, legally
The Pasadena Fire and Police departments remind all that the best way to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday with family and friends is by attending professional fireworks shows such as Americafest at the Rose Bowl Stadium. Sale or possession of fireworks is illegal in Pasadena. Violators are subject to confiscation and impound of vehicles; up to one year in jail and fines up to $50,000. Call (626) 744-4241 to report illegal use of fireworks. Due to the high potential for fire hazards and injuries, police and fire personnel will be present at checkpoints around the Rose Bowl Stadium to seize all fireworks and arrest offenders.
