Search & Rescue offers advice to hike safely
Recent highly publicized rescues of hikers should be powerful reminders to all those enjoying the great outdoors. In 2012, LA County Sheriff's Department participated in 560 search-and-rescue activities. Those rescued came from all of the world, yet most were local; none ever expected his or her life to be at risk; many nearly lost their lives. What is it that rescuers ask of you as they risk so much to help you and those you love?

Celebrate "Earth Day" in Pasadena

Celebrate a world of nature, art and live music at the 11th Annual Pasadena Earth and Arts Festival, 11 am-5 pm, Saturday, April 20, at Memorial Park and the Armory Center for the Arts, 145 N. Raymond Ave.  This year's master of ceremonies is noted author, performer and KPCC radio commentator Sandra Tsing Loh.

City Council has approved the environmental impact report (EIR) for the Glenarm Power Plant Repowering Project. The project plans to replace an antiquated, steam-generating power plant with a new, state-of-the-art, 71-megawatt natural gas powered generator and the best available air pollution control systems. The new plant will generate power about 30% more efficiently and will augment the reliability of the City's electrical system when conditions are unfavorable for wind and solar energy production.

ROSE BOWL EIR LAWSUIT

The WPRA Board of Directors supports a lawsuit filed recently by the Coalition for Preservation of the Arroyo that challenges City Council's certification of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) related to the potential temporary lease of the Rose Bowl Stadium by a National Football League team. If you share that view, the WPRA encourages you to contribute to the related legal fees. It's easy with EZ Donate on the WPRA website. And don't forget to check the box to indicate that your donation, which will be tax-deductible, is for the Rose Bowl EIR lawsuit. MORE
