Save the date:
WPRA schedules 51st annual meeting for May 1 at the Rose BowlThe West Pasadena Residents' Association cordially invites its members and other West Pasadena residents to attend its 51st annual meeting on Wednesday, May 1. The event will be held in the storied, historic Rose Bowl Home Team locker room. "Celebrating success and inspiring change" is the theme. The annual meeting is open to the public and free of charge. Free parking is available to all in Lot F. Enter the stadium through Gate A. T he evening starts at 4:45 pm with tours of the stadium to witness, firsthand, the remarkable progress the City has made in modernizing America's Stadium. During the reception period, which begins at 5:30 pm, attendees can enjoy light dinner fare, while visiting with the many community organizations that'll be exhibiting. The main program opens at 6:30 pm. More to come.LVAA opposes 710 Freeway tunnel optionThe Linda Vista~Annandale Board of Directors, during its February 2013 monthly meeting, voted to join with many other groups, including the West Pasadena Residents' Association, and individuals in Pasadena in opposing Metro's F-7 Alternative Tunnel Project option for the 710 Freeway Project. It's opposition to the tunnel is based on the project's negative impacts, including the potential for an increase in air pollution and traffic congestion on local streets and in our neighborhoods, and public safety concerns. WPRA supports move of multi-benefit/multi-use field to Muir HS The WPRA has expressed to the City its support of the recently revised proposal (also known as the multi-benefit/multi-use project) to construct a multi-use sports field at Muir High School, rather than, as was originally proposed, in the Hahamongna Watershed. "This project" wrote the WPRA in the letter to the City, "would improve the existing south field (at Muir) to include a full-size soccer field, reconfigured softball field, turf renovation, irrigation system upgrades, lighting and various on-site furnishings. The fields would be available for public use during non-school hours." The letter concluded with "Hahamongna Watershed Park should be permanently removed from consideration for this project." Terms for the State's $1 million grant require the project to be completed by June 2015. NOTE: In preparation for its formal submission for the grant, the City is now seeking letters of support for the Muir field project. City Public Works project manager Loren Pluth must receive the letters by 5 pm on Tuesday, April 2. Send your letter of support by email to lpluth@cityofpasadena.net or by mail to: California Dept. of Parks and Recreation

ROSE BOWL EIR LAWSUIT The WPRA Board of Directors supports a lawsuit filed recently by the Coalition for Preservation of the Arroyo that challenges City Council's certification of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) related to the potential temporary lease of the Rose Bowl Stadium by a National Football League team. If you share that view, the WPRA encourages you to contribute to the related legal fees. It's easy with EZ Donate on the WPRA website. And don't forget to check the box to indicate that your donation, which will be tax-deductible, is for the Rose Bowl EIR lawsuit.
