6:30-8:30 pm

The main program opens with a celebration of Pasadena life as seen through the eyes of the late iconic television personality Huell Howser. Best known for his travel show, California's Gold, which aired for many years on Public Broadcasting station KCET, Howser died in January. He'll be with us in spirit, however, when we screen a segment of a program he taped several years ago from Old Pasadena.

Keynote speaker will be Eric G. Walsh, MD, Dr.P.H., Director of Public Health and Health Officer of the City's Department of Health. In addition to being on staff at Loma Linda University School of Medicine and at the University of California, Irvine, as an adjunct professor, Dr. Walsh has served under the current and previous White House administrations on the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Walsh will focus on "Building a healthier Pasadena." He'll discuss findings of the 2012 City of Pasadena-Altadena Quality of Life Index, identify the top priorities of the Public Health Department and discuss strategies to improve citizens' health.

Mayor Bill Bogaard, a former WPRA president, will join us, and we'll hear an update of key district issues and activity from District 6 Councilmember Steve Madison.

Board members Audrey O'Kelley, also a former WPRA president, and Joan Hearst will formally recognize individuals and organizations whose activities over the past year have materially improved the quality of life in West Pasadena.

Also, members will elect 2013-2014 WPRA officers and directors.
