Starting at 8:30 pm, Saturday, March 23, Pasadena will join hundreds of cities and thousands of people around the world to "go dark" for one hour during Earth Hour 2013, organized by the World Wildlife Fund. Lights at the historic City Hall dome will be turned off for one hour. You can also participate by turning out all non-essential lights in your home and encouraging family, friends and neighbors to do the same. MORE

The Pasadena Fire Department will host a meeting on March 26, 6:30-7:30, at La Casita Del Arroyo, 177 S. Arroyo Blvd., to discuss hazardous vegetation and fire safety. Although designation as a fire-hazard severity zone has not changed since 2006, the notices regarding inspections recently went to all residents in the zone for the first time.
City Council, on Monday, April 8 at 7 pm in the City Hall Council chamber, will review recommendations from staff and City commissions and committees on the General Plan. These recommendations include changes to the Guiding Principles, new policy-topic areas, changes to the land-use diagram and development levels. Staff is seeking direction before preparing the environmental impact report. The City encourages you to attend the meeting and comment.

A series of modern, color-coordinated "way finding" signs are popping up in Pasadena to make it easier to get around and find key destinations, attractions, parking and other points of interest.

The WPRA has expressed to the City its support of the recently revised proposal (also known as the multi-benefit/multi-use project) to construct a multi-use sports field at Muir High School, rather than, as was originally proposed, in the Hahamongna Watershed. "This project" wrote the WPRA in the letter to the City, "would improve the existing south field (at Muir) to include a full-size soccer field, reconfigured softball field, turf renovation, irrigation system upgrades, lighting and various on-site furnishings. The fields would be available for public use during non-school hours." The letter concluded with "Hahamongna Watershed Park should be permanently removed from consideration for this project." Terms for the State's $1 million grant require the project to be completed by June 2015. NOTE: In preparation for its formal submission for the grant, the City is now seeking letters of support for the Muir field project. City Public Works project manager Loren Pluth must receive the letters by 5 pm on Tuesday, April 2. Send your letter of support by email to lpluth@cityofpasadena.net or by mail to:

ROSE BOWL EIR LAWSUIT

The WPRA Board of Directors supports a lawsuit filed recently by the Coalition for Preservation of the Arroyo that challenges City Council's certification of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) related to the potential temporary lease of the Rose Bowl Stadium by a National Football League team. If you share that view, the WPRA encourages you to contribute to the related legal fees. It's easy with EZ Donate on the WPRA website. And don't forget to check the box to indicate that your donation, which will be tax-deductible, is for the Rose Bowl EIR lawsuit. MORE
