Pasadena declares temporary water-shortage emergency

The City has declared a Level 4 water-shortage emergency for February 21-28, while the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) repairs and upgrades its Eagle Rock Tower and Weymouth Treatment Plant in LaVerne. Since the MWD will interrupt all water delivery to Pasadena (and other foothill cities) during that time, Pasadena must rely solely on its groundwater, reserves and water conservation. The City will enforce a total ban on outdoor watering, with very few exceptions, until the pipeline flow resumes. MORE

Voters to decide City Council, PUSD Board seats on March 5
The terms for Pasadena City Council districts 3, 5 and 7, and for the Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education district seats 1, 3, 5 and 7 (most of West Pasadena) will be up for election on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. (Following the approval of Measure A in 2012, PUSD is now divided into seven geographic sub-district areas. Beginning with the March election, board members will be elected by voters residing within a specific geographic sub-district within the District.)

If you're a resident of Pasadena and would like to grow your own fruit, vegetables and/or flowers, but don't have the space to do it at home, you're in luck. Pasadena Community Gardens will kick off a membership drive for its first garden, at 721 South Pasadena Ave, with two informational sessions at 1 pm on Saturday, March 9 OR Sunday, March 10, at Huntington Hospital's Braun Auditorium, 100 West California Blvd. NOTE: Those who wish to become a member of the garden must attend one of these two sessions.

WPRA supports Pasadena DoT recommendations on SR-710 study
On February 11, President Bill Urban, on behalf of the WPRA officers and Board of Directors, wrote to Mayor Bogaard, the City Council and City Staff in support of the City Department of Transportation's proposal to collaborate with other cities along the proposed SR 710 extension route to "ensure the full an accurate assessment of impacts from the SR-710 project and the full mitigation of those impacts on Pasadena." The work will include sponsoring white papers and participating in a campaign of direct correspondence with appropriate state and regional authorities.

Contribute to the Rose Bowl EIR lawsuit
The WPRA Board of Directors supports a lawsuit filed recently by the Coalition for Preservation of the Arroyo that challenges City Council's certification of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) related to the potential temporary lease of the Rose Bowl Stadium by a National Football League team. If you believe in the cause, the WPRA encourages you to contribute to the related legal fees. It's easy with EZ Donate on the WPRA website. And don't forget to check the box to indicate that your donation, which will be tax-deductible, is for the Rose Bowl EIR lawsuit. MORE
