Dates & deadlines & donations

Our Farm Visit will be Sunday, June 30. We'll enjoy a potluck, a farm tour with Chris, and give you the opportunity to pick some strawberries. More complete information is still to come, but figure on the 11 am to 3 pm time frame, give or take. We hope to see many of you that day!

The Spring Season will be ending in a few weeks. We'll be heading into the summer's full bounty during the 12-week Summer Season beginning the week of July 10. If you haven't already signed up to keep your veggies coming, click here to update your membership. Doing so by Saturday, July 6 will ensure that you don't miss a week. If you're not sure whether you've signed up for the next season, want to revisit your share size, prefer to sign up the old-fashioned way, or have any questions at all, don't hesitate to call or email me.

Thursday customers! Your final Spring Season delivery will be on Wednesday, July 3, not on the July 4 holiday. Please think ahead to see if your holiday plans will result in a cancellation or an alternate delivery that week.

On Thursday evenings, we deliver donated vacation boxes and other excess produce to the Rice Home in Evanston, a facility of Children's Home & Aid that provides a home and much-needed support for at-risk children awaiting foster care. You're always welcome to designate an alternate Chicago-area delivery for your box when you're away, but know that when that's not possible, your veggies will not go to waste! They're incorporated at the Rice Home into a program called Veg Ed, which teaches the kids about gardening, nutrition, and where their food comes from. We'll be providing an update from Rice Home in a future sneak peek.

WHAT'S COOKIN'

*As Chris explained in last week's newsletter, to alleviate a spacing issue with the onions, he's harvesting some outer rows early, resulting in baby onions. They haven't begun to "bulb" yet, so they're more akin to scallions than onions. You can chop them into salads or any other way you'd use scallions (don't hesitate to go up the neck into the green a bit), or get more adventurous with some Scallion Pancakes or other onion-y adventures.
