Turnips times two . . .

This may be the only week you'll receive hearty purple top turnips this season. While many of you may be cheering that news, those in the know will want to take pureed turnip soup best advantage of them.  In a rare move, they're paired this week with the sweeter hakurei turnips...and yellow onions. Both can be used to sweeten up recipes that call for turnips.  We've got a few ideas.

Pureed Turnip Soup can be made with both hakureis and caramelized onions for extra sweetness, and the blank canvas of creamy, white soup gives you lots of opportunities for fun garnishing.
turnip gratin
Turnip Gratin from Epicurious is an elegant side dish using very thin slices of unpeeled turnips. There are several nice options in the Comments section that might give you the confidence to mix things up yourself and make this recipe your own.

Scalloped Potatoes with White Root Vegetables is a great dish for a crowd and doubles as a good way to white root scallop use up any white roots you have in storage: turnips, rutabagas, parsnips, leeks, onions, celery root, even daikon if you dare.

There are still more ideas for turnips on our website. Don't be afraid!
