Dear Common Thread Members and Friends,
We finally got some warm days... okay, only a couple, but the plants
 | Sarah and Stephanie on the transplanter |
that have been just sitting there not really growing this cold spring doubled in size in a couple of days! We've put several successional plantings in the ground at this point: 3 rounds of broccoli, 3 rounds of lettuce, two rounds of kale, 3 rounds of carrots, and several rounds of spinach, baby lettuce, arugula, swiss chard, scallions, mini-onions, radishes, bok choi, beets, escarole, and more. We've also planted potatoes, onions, peas, leeks, parsnips, cauliflower, cabbage, cucumbers, and summer squash. And we'll plant our hoophouse to tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, and cucumbers this week!
It's hard to believe that distribution starts in just two and a half weeks! Actually, if it cools down again like it's supposed to, we might not be ready that soon, in which case we will start a week or two later and go longer into the fall. We will email and call all CSA members before we start so folks know when to pick up.
 | The Bald Eagle living by our field! |
We have a Bald Eagle that appears to be living right next to our fields! We often see it sitting at the top of an old dead tree in the wetlands. We're including a shot that Asher managed to snap just after it caught a rabbit. We've also been enjoying the large patches of marsh marigold that are flowering now, the fields of dandelions (we think they're pretty and the bees like them), and the various shades of green emerging from every direction.
We still have CSA shares available and still need help spreading the word! We have room at all our sites and still need more people to be able to do the deliveries to several sites including Cicero, Rome, and most of our Syracuse sites.

We're almost there, yay!
Yours in the field, Wendy and Asher
