Dear Common Thread Members and Friends,
It's almost June and we are gearing up for the first CSA distribution! The first on farm distribution days will be this coming Tuesday, June 4 and Saturday, June 8. The first day for delivered boxes will be Thursday, June 6.
It's just been confirmed that we will be doing a booth at the Clinton Farmer's Market on Thursdays from 9 am - 4 pm this year, starting June 6. This means we can offer the Clinton market as an alternate CSA box share pick up site for those interested in picking up at the market instead of Clinton Pottery. We'll be at the Hamilton Farmers Market on Saturdays from 8 am- 1 pm starting June 8. And we'll be at the Downtown Syracuse Farmers Market in Clinton Square on Tuesdays from 9 am to 3 pm starting on June 11.
We still have quite a few CSA shares available so there is still room to join! Once the CSA starts we will continue to accept new members and prorate shares for those who start later. We also have fall shares available. Thanks to all of you who have joined the CSA and to those who have been helping to spread the word about the CSA!
We will be emailing all the members of the CSA by pick-up site with logistics for your site so if you are a CSA member, watch for that email in the next day or two. All our members and those on the general list will continue to get farm updates and general announcements once or twice a month. Starting next week, we will be sending out weekly informational CSA emails to just the on farm pick up e-list and the delivered box share e-list to which we have added all current members. For anyone who wants to be on a list that they aren't on right now, it's easy to get onto any of these e-lists, just go to our home page and find the "sign up for our newsletter" box on the left bottom of the page.
We'll send out a more complete list next week, but some of the vegetables that are coming in soon are head lettuce, bok choi, kale, scallions, arugula, baby lettuce, swiss chard, and radishes. June is a big month for greens!
We've been keeping busy on the farm with preparing ground for planting, planting and weed control. In the last farm update, we were wishing for rain which we have received quite enough of in the past week. The extended rain has slowed us down on planting a bit but we finally got our hoophouse finished and planted, caught up on greenhouse work, and did a lot of prep to be ready for CSA and farmers market. Hopefully we'll get a drier window at the end of this week to get back to some planting, since our leeks, more rounds of cukes and zukes, melons, peppers, eggplants, strawberries (for next year) and more are all ready to go into the ground.
We're excited that the CSA and markets are about to start and we will get to see members and friends of the farm each week, and to share the food and the farm with everyone.
