Meet The New Farmers

Dear Common Thread Community Farm CSA Members,

We are excited to be joining your community shortly, and to be farming at Common Thread Community Farm next season! We have heard wonderful things about the farm and CSA and we hope to continue the tradition of the community convening around good healthy food for many years to come. We are appreciative of the good work that Chris and Amy have done on this land and wish them well on their journey forward.

We are a farming couple who have worked on vegetable farms for the past 17 years in Maine, New Hampshire, and New York. We have two daughters, Klara (6 years old) and Astrid (3 years old). We have been farm managers for the past ten years at a nonprofit and community farm in the Hudson Valley. At the Poughkeepsie Farm Project, we have managed a 10 acre organic vegetable farm and a popular CSA, and helped to run education and food justice programs.

Meet Your New Farmers

We plan to continue to operate Common Thread in the spirit that Chris and Amy did. We will use organic methods, taking good care of the soil and not using any synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. We will encourage shareholders to enjoy the farm at pick up and with open hours for pick your own crops. We will also make shares available at drop off sites for shareholders who live further from the farm.

We will be in touch soon with a CSA sign up form as well as with a short survey to collect your ideas for the 2013 season. We are looking forward to hearing your ideas for the farm and CSA and to meeting many of you this coming season.

Sincerely, Wendy and Asher Burkhart-Spiegel
