Tuition information for the 2014-2015 school year, along with instructions on how to register for next year is now available on the Pope John website. Registration paperwork is all online this year and can be accessed from the "register" button on the homepage. You can pay for registration by cash, check, or credit card, but the payment must be received by Wednesday, April 9. After April 9, registration will be $525. If you have any questions, please contact Lynsey Hepburn.
Check the school website to see what lunch will be on future days! Until future notice, students may only pay for lunch in cash.If a student wishes to purchase a vegetarian option, please contact the school at least one day in advance. 1. Junior Ring News
Our Junior Ring Mass and celebration is coming up on Wednesday, April 30. Herff-Jones recently sent out a communication to junior parents purchasing rings that had an incorrect date. Please make sure to mark your calendars for the morning of April 30!

2. Italy Trip
The next Italy trip meeting will be Wednesday, April 9 at 7:00 pm in the half-cafe. All travelers and parents of student travelers must attend. Attendees should email Mrs. Brawner at [email protected] with their shirt size if they wish to purchase a trip shirt. Money for shirts will be collected at the meeting; they are $20 each.

3. Senior News
Prom 2014 - Vegas Baby! This year's Senior/Junior Prom will be on Friday, April 11th at Tuscany Villa. The Prom will be held from 8:00pm to midnight. Lock-in will be 8:30pm - 11:45pm.
Ticket sales will be held on April 7, 8 & 9. Your student can purchase their ticket in the Half Cafe during lunch. Tickets are $40 for singles and $70 for couples. Checks or cash will be accepted. Checks should be made payable to Pope John. Tickets will not be available at the door. If your student is bringing a guest that does not attend PJXXIII they will need to fill out an Outside Guest Permission Form. This form will be available at the sales table and must be returned to the front office by April 9th.
Laura Chiles Photography will be on site during the dance to take formal photos. They are available in 5x7 size and are $15 for the first photo with $10 for each additional photos. They will also be available to purchase online at the photographer's website. The password to view photos is "prom." Cash, check and credit card are accepted; make checks payable to Laura Chiles. |
4. Library News
The library is excited to announce it will host a student book exchange event during the first week of May! This will operate with a Bring One/Take One philosophy. During April, students may donate gently used books to the library and receive a coupon to trade in for books during the exchange. Possible books include novels, school required reading, nonfiction, textbooks, etc. This will be a chance to collect needed books for next year for free! Please encourage your child to examine their book collections and bring unwanted books to the library next week.
The library would like to thank Coach Todd and the Baldauff and Garrison families for their recent book donations. Your generosity is appreciated.

5. Campus Ministry News
The Spring Retreat will be held the weekend of May 2-4th. Please sign up in the Campus Ministry office if you'd like to attend. This is a great opportunity for any students wishing to attend Kairos in November.
The mandatory Junior Retreat will be held May 1st at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church. Permission forms will be sent home this week.
Thank you to Ms. Meneilly, Mr. Catalanotto, Mr. Lee, and Mr. & Ms. Millare for their selfless service this past weekend at our Kairos Reunion Beach Retreat! We had a wonderful time with a group of fantastic juniors & seniors!
Congratulations to our new Archdiocesan Youth Council for the 2014-2015 school year....Maddie Vuyk, Kara Christopherson, Jennifer Lines, Lily Usher, and Rebecca Doublesin!! These students will be representing Pope John XXIII High School and serving on an advisory council at the Archdiocesan Level.
Due Dates for Works of Mercy hours: Seniors are due April 15th and Juniors are due May 1st! Remember that the Works of Mercy requirement is mandatory for all students. You may not graduate or advance to the next grade level without completing your hours. Please visit the website for detailed information.
Our Works of Mercy program will be revised for the 2014-2015 school year to include specific focus areas for each grade level. Please watch for updates!
Our Live Stations of the Cross will take place on Holy Thursday at the end of the school day (2:10 PM).
April 9th - Coffee with the Chaplains (9:00 - 10:00 a.m.) All parents are welcome to attend this informal gathering with our chaplains, Fr. Hough and Fr. Sullivan.

6. Adoration
All parents are invited to come before our Lord in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the chapel on Fridays during this school year. Spending time in the presence of Christ can transform our lives and our school by the grace of God. Parents can sign up for the Fridays and hour of their choice. 7. Electronics Recycling
Don't toss out those old cell phones, laptops, or ink cartridges! This year, Pope John is collecting used electronics, ink cartridges, and jewelry for recycling and will receive fundraising dollars for the technology department for every item donated. Bring your items to the business office and drop them off in the marked box! Contact Gillian Kruse at [email protected] for more information. |
8. Amazon Smile
You can now help out Pope John just with your normal Amazon shopping habits! When you sign up for Amazon Smile, you can link your Amazon account to Pope John's charitable account, and a percentage of each purchase you make through smile.amazon.com will come back to the school! It only takes a second to do the registration process and you only have to do it once. Let your shopping help out Pope John!

9. Fine Arts News
We had a fantastic three days at State TAPPS!! Choir received a superior rating. Band also received a superior rating in their concert performance as well as their sight reading performance earning them a sweepstakes award. The band finished third place overall out of 23 schools that advanced to the All State level!
All soloists and ensembles did extremely well. 10. Comedy Sportz
Our Comedy Sportz team will have its last home match this Thursday at 7 pm in the gym against Memorial High School. Admission is $5. Come out and enjoy the fun!!

12. Golf News
Pope John XXIII High School is proud to announce that the Lions won the school's first district golf title Monday, March 31 at Sienna Plantation! The team beat second place Second Baptist by 20 shots. Junior Philip Nijoka's round of 75 placed him tied for second place overall. Junior Mark Nijoka shot an 80 to place 5th while senior Peter Thorseth shot 82 to finish 7th. All earned All-District honors. Juniors Case and Jake Garrison had scores of 85 and 87. Senior Woody Hardy and junior Taylor Potts also earned All-District honors and qualified for the regional tournament with rounds of 83. Sophomore Philip Grandjean and freshman Michael Gandolfo had rounds of 97 while senior Joseph Drewes posted a 104. On the girls side, senior Maria Corte (96) and junior Katie Doyle(112) both had their best rounds of the year, with Maria earning All-District honors and qualifying for the regional tournament in two weeks.

13. Tennis News
On Thursday, April 3rd, The Boys and Girls tennis teams defeated Westbury Christian School 6-2. Outstanding winners were the #1 Boys Doubles team of Jon Henck/Luke Gerber 6-0, 6-0 and the #2 Boys Doubles team of Zach Witten/Stephen Lloyd who also won 6-0, 6-0.
