To submit an announcement for the PJXXIII Weekly e-Bulletin, point your browser to www.pj23.org/announcement.

The Weekly e-Bulletin will be sent out every Monday.  Announcements must be submitted by Friday at noon to be included in the next week's bulletin.   All announcements are approved by Tim Petersen prior to publication.
Prayer Line
At Pope John, our school community lifts each other up in prayer during times of need. If you have a prayer request, or to join the prayer line, please email atm8789@sbcglobal.net.
We hope everyone had a wonderful summer! We are excited about the upcoming school year and anxious to meet our new Lions. A reminder: Lion Camp - for all new incoming students - will be held Monday, August 12 through Tuesday, August 13 and includes a fun overnight stay at the school! All students will attend Lion Pride Day for orientation on Wednesday, August 14 during their allotted grade time:

Seniors: 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Juniors: 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Sophomores: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Freshmen: 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Below are your announcements for the week of August 5, 2013.
1. Class of 2014 Senior Pictures
Members of the Class of 2014 who have not yet taken their senior yearbook photos need to be sure to schedule their portrait sessions soon. Information about scheduling your appointment can be found here, and frequently asked questions can be found here.
2. Special Bell Schedules

THURSDAY, August 15

  • First Day of School - This is a CRIMSON Day.
  • We will have Mass for the Feast of the Assumption.       Students MUST come in full Mass dress uniform.
  • Students will be dismissed at 12:20 p.m. (See Schedule Below)

                   A             8:00 - 8:40

                   Mass       8:45 - 10:05

                   B             10:10 - 10:50

                   C             10:55 - 11:35

                   D             11:40 - 12:20

FRIDAY, August 16

  • Students will be dismissed at 10:55 a.m. (See Schedule Below)

                   E              8:00 - 8:40

                   F              8:45 - 9:25

                   G             9:30 - 10:10

                   H             10:15 - 10:55


3. Student Parking
All students who plan on driving themselves to school in the 2013-2014 school year must register their vehicle with the school office by August 28. The parking fee is $150 and can be payable by check to the school. All students must also provide proof of insurance and a copy of their drivers license, as well as this registration form.
4. Parent Club
The Pope John Parent Club will have a kickoff barbecue on August 13, beginning at 4:00 p.m. All Pope John families are invited to come and join in the festivities! Information will be available in the gym during the barbecue about the various volunteer opportunities and Parent Club committees that will be active during the school year, including hospitality, Christmas decorating, teacher appreciation, and many others. We hope that all Pope John families will be able to come

We will have another used uniform sale running during the barbecue from 4:00 to 6:30.
5. 2014 Gala
Our 2014 gala will be held on February 8, and we are already beginning our plans for the 10th anniversary gala for the school! If you would like to volunteer to work on this amazing event, especially in the areas of auction coordination and item solicitation, please contact gala chair Sue Bruno at phillychick424@sbcglobal.net.
6. Library News

Do you have a used copy of The Great Gatsby, Pride and Prejudice, The Scarlet Letter or 1984?  The library is now collecting novels required for classroom studies and summer reading to fill our recycling shelf. Throughout the year, students may donate to or take from this shelf of literature.

7. Student Directory & Sports Program Ads
We are currently selling ad space in our student directory and fall sports program, the proceeds of which will go towards student activities at the school. All clubs and athletic teams will be eligible to receive these funds, so we hope that everyone will help us solicit ads as they directly benefit the students! The deadline for submitting ads for the student directory is Wednesday, August 21 and the deadline for ads in the fall sports program is Friday, September 6.

8. Yearbooks

Yearbooks were included in tuition for all students this school year. If your student has not yet picked up their yearbook, they should see Mrs. Kruse or Mrs. Blanton in room 104.

 

The extended edition for the yearbook has come in! All students can pick one up at the school during the summer. If you have any questions about picking up the extended edition, email Gillian Kruse (gkruse@pj23.org) or Claire Hein Blanton (cblanton@pj23.org).

9. Electronics Recycling
Don't toss out those old cell phones, laptops, or ink cartridges! This year, Pope John is collecting used electronics, ink cartridges, and jewelry for recycling and will receive fundraising dollars for the technology department for every item donated. Bring your items to the business office and drop them off in the marked box! Every little bit helps both the school and the environment. Contact Gillian Kruse at gkruse@pj23.org for more information.
10. Campus Ministry News

Please keep our faculty and administration in your prayers as we begin our new school year with an overnight retreat at Camp Allen!

11. Carpooling

Would like to give or receive a "Lift with a Lion"?  Fill out the carpool form on the website, scan and email to Iris Gerken at swepickles@aol.com or drop off at the front office.

12. Cross Country News

Attention all returning and potential cross country runners:

 

I am very pleased and honored to be assuming the role of head boys and girls cross country coach for the upcoming 2013 season.  Now that finals and the school year are winding down, I would like to set up a contact list of all of the students who are planning on running with us this coming fall.  Please take a few moments to email (or call-in if you prefer) the following information to me so that I can begin to set up a preliminary roster. 

 

1.            Name and grade

2.            Email address and best telephone number to reach you

3.            The name(s) and dates of any summer training/running programs that you will participating in.

 

It is also my hope to set up an occasion in the early summer months during which we can all meet as a team to discuss my plans and expectations for the upcoming season and then afterward go for a team run.
