Our faculty and staff had a wonderful time learning from leading education experts and meeting many other dedicated Catholic educators from around the country at the National Catholic Educators Association convention this past week. Stop by the front office to see the fantastic Pope John boot that represented our school in the convention center lobby!

1. Golf Tournament
Pope John XXIII High School is holding its annual Spring Golf Tournament on Sunday, May 5th. The tournament will be held at Cypress Lakes Golf Course. Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM, in the course pavilion, prior to the start of the tournament at 1:00 PM. The registration fee includes a box lunch and a BBQ dinner after the tournament. There will be a Silent Auction, a raffle, and a few Door Prizes as well. A 4-player team costs $600 and Individual Players can play for $150.

2. Performing Arts News
Choir News
Mrs. Elko would like to thank and acknowledge the following students who participated in the NCEA Liturgy this past Thursday at the George R. Brown Convention Center:
Tess Hodges, Samantha Schulz, Sydney Braunreiter, Camille Mayor, Julia Palenzuela, Megan Magallanez and Hailey Justus. These students participated with students from the St. Pius, Incarnate Word and St. Thomas Choirs. They sounded so beautiful and angelic! Thank you so much for sharing your musical gifts and for representing our school!
TAPPS NEWS:
Best of Luck to our musicians who will be traveling to State TAPPS this weekend at the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in Belton, Tx.
The Band and instrumental soloists will perform on Friday, April 12. All band members need to report to school at 5:30am.
The Vocal soloists will perform on Saturday, April 13. Students need to report to school at 7:45am.

3. Campus Ministry News
Our Senior Retreat will be held on April 17th at Epiphany of Our Lord church in Katy from 8AM - 3PM! We are very excited to announce our guest speaker, Ben Walther! Permission forms will go home Monday and Tuesday of this week and are due back by Friday. On the day of the retreat, students may wear jeans and a PJ spirit tee. Students are responsible for their own transportation. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Kairos VI is finally here!! Please keep the students, leadership team, and faculty in your prayers as we head out for a wonderful four days of time with Our Lord!
All Works of Mercy hours and reflection papers are due April 8th for Seniors and April 15th for Juniors. Please turn papers into your theology teacher.

4. Visual Arts News
VISUAL ARTS -New National Art Honor Society inductees are being tapped within the next two weeks and all are invited to the inductions ceremony and reception for all NAHS members (new and current) to be held on Monday, April 22, from 7-9 PM in the practice gym (not the new gym).
SPRING FINE ARTS SHOWCASE and RECEPTION is to be held on Tuesday, May 7, from 7-9 PM in the new gym. The talents of our artists, our band, and our choir will be in full array! ALL art class students are expected to be in attendance for their end-of-semester art exam grade. Again, our Fine Arts Department service project will be our unwrapped gift/gift card collection for the local Krause Teen Center for abused teens. Everyone is invited to join us for this evening of the arts!Contact Ms. O'Donnell, art teacher, with any concerns at codonnell@pj23.org.

5. Electronics Recycling
Don't toss out those old cell phones, laptops, or ink cartridges! This year, Pope John is collecting used electronics, ink cartridges, and jewelry for recycling and will receive fundraising dollars for the technology department for every item donated. Bring your items to the business office and drop them off in the marked box! Every little bit helps both the school and the environment. 6. Senior News
Sr. Class lunches: The Senior Class is invited to the half-café during regular lunch time, to share lunch with your fellow classmates and hear about upcoming news for the Class of 2013! Lunch will be provided and served by Senior Parents.

Prom tickets will be sold Apr. 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17 for $40 each in the half-café during lunch time. Purchase tickets early because prices will go up to $60.00, Thursday Apr. 18th.
Prom Set-up and Clean-up
If you are a Senior Parent and can come help set-up for Prom Friday April 19th at 9:30am, please meet us at Tuscany Villa. We will also need parents to help clean-up at 11:30 pm. We need several parents to help make the set-up & clean-up go quickly, if you have one hour or all day please contact Ana Sanchez @ams1965@email.com.

7. Volleyball News
1) Open Gym held on Tuesday evenings in PJ23 main gym; 6:30 - 7:30 pm. 2) Spring Training is held on Wednesdays and Fridays, 3:30 - 4:45 beginning 2/27/13 and running thru 5/10/13.
3) The dates and time for Team Camp are set! Camp will be held at PJ23 this year in order to allow more players to attend and for the convenience of incoming players who will be new to the school. When: 7/11/13 - 7/13-13 9:00 - 11:30 (break) 1:00 - 4:30 Where: PJ23 Cost: $150 (Olympa Volleyball Camps) + $30 (t-shirt and facility usage) Please make your checks payable to PJ23 and note in the memo area that it is for Team Camp. The school will cut one check payable to Olympa. |
