Prayer Line
At Pope John, our school community lifts each other up in prayer during times of need. If you have a prayer request, or to join the prayer line, please email atm8789@sbcglobal.net.

We are pleased that Pope John has been selected to represent schools across the nation by participating in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). NAEP provides a common measure of student achievement across the country, and the results provide information about student achievement to educators, parents, policymakers, and the public.

The NAEP assessment will be given on Tuesday, February 26th at 8:00 to SENIORS ONLY. Students will be selected to take either the mathematics or reading assessment.

FRESHMEN, SOPHOMORES, AND JUNIORS WILL HAVE A DELAYED START ON FEBRUARY 26TH. CLASSES WILL START AT 9:40. THE SCHOOL WILL BE OPEN AT THE REGULAR TIME FOR STUDENTS TO BE DROPPED OFF.

Below are your announcements for the week of February 25, 2013.
1. Family Commitment Opportunities
The deadline for the spring sports program has been pushed back to allow for more time for families to solicit advertisements to go towards their family commitment. The new deadline is Friday, March 8. You can find information about these advertisements and the order form online. If you have any questions, contact Gillian Kruse in the Advancement Office.

We have begun a new way for parents to earn their family commitment credit just by doing their everyday shopping! All purchases of gift cards from shopwithscrip.com will give a percentage of the card amount back to Pope John - half towards the club or activity of your choice, and half to your family commitment! Pope John's enrollment number is D6LLFDF33573L - you can order online and it will notify the school's organizers that your order is ready. Call or email Ann Justus at annjsts@netzero.net for any questions.
2. Pope John 5K Fun Run
Thanks to everyone who came out and participated in the Get UP! and Glow 5K this weekend! We had beautiful weather and more than 100 students, teachers, families, friends, and community members don glow apparel and show their Pope John support. A very special thank you goes out to our sponsors: My Fit Foods, Frozen Ropes, Methodist West Center for Sports Medicine, Cross Creek Ranch, AlphaGraphics, Kroger, and Starbucks.

Congratulations also go to the band, who had the most runners and volunteers supporting them! They will receive $1,500 towards their spring events. Close behind them were yearbook, girls basketball, and baseball.

If you ran and would like to see your official time, you can go to the results website here.
3. Aloha! Gala

If you purchased an item in the auction at the Aloha! gala on February 9, 2013 and have not yet picked it up, you may do so at any time during school hours. Items that are not retrieved by March 1, 2013 will be subject to forfeiture and used at the school's discretion. If you are uncertain if you won an item, you can contact the advancement office to determine your status.

4. Campus Ministry News

Our Junior Retreat will be held at Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic church in Katy on Thursday, February 28th from 8 AM - 3 PM. Students are responsible for their own transportation!! We are also in need of a few parents to volunteer to help serve breakfast and lunch. Please contact Ms. DeMois if you can help.

This summer, the Campus Ministry department will be hosting a trip to the Steubenville Conference in Atlanta, July 18-21st. Estimated cost of the trip is $650-700.  Please sign up in the Campus Ministry office if you'd like to attend.

All students should be actively working on their Works of Mercy requirement. Please check the Campus Ministry section of the PJ website for details and deadlines.

5. Spring Sports Photos

We will be having photos of the spring sports teams (baseball, softball, tennis, golf, and track & field) taken after school on Wednesday, March 6 at 3:15. These will be the photos used in the spring sports program AND the yearbook. All students involved in spring sports (or anticipating involvement in spring sports) must have their pictures taken on Wednesday after school.

Parents are highly encouraged to order individual and team photos of their student by using this order form. You should print it out and have your student bring it with them to the photos with payment.

6. Electronics Recycling
Don't toss out those old cell phones, laptops, or ink cartridges! This year, Pope John is collecting used electronics, ink cartridges, and jewelry for recycling and will receive fundraising dollars for the technology department for every item donated. Bring your items to the business office and drop them off in the marked box! Every little bit helps both the school and the environment. Contact Gillian Kruse at gkruse@pj23.org for more information.
