In a rare moment in the history of the Church, Pope Benedict XVI has announced that he will resign from his Petrine ministry on the 28th of February 2013.
In his humility, the Pope recognizes that "both [the] strength of [his] mind and [his] body" have "deteriorated ...to the extent that [he has] had to recognize [his] incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to [him]." This humble worker in the vineyard of the Lord has taken a courageous step out of his love for Christ and the Church. This is another extraordinary example of the great leadership and virtuous witness of the Holy Father.
Along with the rest of the larger Church, the Pope John XXIII community is surprised by this news, but we recognize and value the tremendous courage of this decision. As a school family we will be praying in thanksgiving for Pope Benedict's remaining weeks as the shepherd of the universal Church. We invite you to join us on Thursday, February 28, at 9:25 as we gather together to pray in common for the Holy Father and for the upcoming conclave of Cardinals which will elect the successor to Pope Benedict.
Below are your announcements for the week of February 11, 2013.

3. Aloha! Gala
Thank you to all of you who came out this past Saturday evening to support the Gala. The 2013 Aloha Gala was a huge success with a net profit of approximately $130,000, the most successful gala yet! We hope you all enjoyed the night as much as we did! The amount of time and effort that goes into preparing this event is tremendous. We would like to thank our very talented decorating chairs, Cindy Doublesin and Norma Noonan. Our silent auction chair, Ann Fontenot along with Ingrid Caballero who ran the behind the scenes computers. Angie Abernathy for her creativity in making our logo and invitation. Thank you to those of you that came to help set up and tear down, especially Jay Justus who went above and beyond for us again this year.
Our committee would not be successful without the support of some important people in the schools administration. Our principal, Tim Petersen and the ladies in the Advancement Office, Candace Brawner, Gillian Kruse, and Claire Blanton.
Final kudos go out to Kroger, Salt Grass Steakhouse, Pele of Polynesia Dancers, Cypress Republic Band and Enchanted Gardens Nursery.
