1. Campus Ministry News

Interested in a Mission Trip this Spring Break? Mr. Catalanotto and Fr. Bob are sponsoring a mission trip to Eagle Pass, Texas! Students will be involved in a variety of projects while living and working alongside the residents in the village. Join us this Thursday evening at 6:30 PM for an informational parent meeting! Please RSVP to Mrs. DeMois at sdemois@pj23.org.

Sophomores!! Don't forget to turn in your permission forms for the Sophomore Retreat. Forms are due this Thursday. The Sophomore Retreat will be held next Wednesday at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church in Katy. Students are responsible for their own transportation. You may wear a spirit tee and jeans. Parents, please consider donating baked goods for our snack time. Students may bring baked goods the day of the retreat.

Pope John XXIII is very blessed have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament a couple times per month, usually on the first and third Fridays. Parent volunteers are needed to sign up to adore Christ in the Eucharist for hour time slots, allowing the students to come and go to adoration as fits their schedules. Volunteers sign up as fits their schedules throughout the year. If you would like to be on the email list of volunteers for adoration, please email Becky Neeson at atm8789@sbcglobal.net

2. Counselor's News
This is a reminder that on Wednesday, October 17th, all tenth and eleventh graders will be taking the PSAT test at the school. Ninth and twelfth graders will stay home. Students testing will be on early dismissal that day. Questions about the PSAT can be directed to Counselor Cynthia Cox.

Rosters for the PSAT are posted on the bulletin board near the Roar Store.  Be sure to check it to see which room you will be in for the PSAT and report to that room Wednesday. Bring two #2 pencils and a calculator. Be sure to know your social security number.

This Friday after mass, Mr. Stuck will be presenting information on the Hugh O'Brien Youth (HOBY) Leadership conference to the Sophomore class. This is the third year that Pope John XXIII will be sending students to this conference, and it is a great opportunity for students to continue to develop their leadership skills. This year the conference takes place May 31 through June 2 and Texas A&M at Galveston.

Applications will be available after Mr. Stuck's presentation and are due back no later than October 26.

Please contact Mr. Stuck at cstuck@pj23.org for more information.

3. Family Commitment
The next opportunity for you to help take care of your family commitment is here! We will be producing another sports program for our winter sports (basketball, swimming, and soccer), and you may pay off your family commitment by soliciting advertisements in the program. Advertising information is due Friday, October 26, so make sure you take advantage of this opportunity to raise money towards your family commitment!

We are also accepting kudos for the back of the program, though kudos will not count towards your family commitment. Honor your favorite swimmer or soccer or basketball player with a kudo in the winter sports program!
4. School Lunch
Please go to your lunch account at www.myschoolaccount.com and update your account status. Many accounts are currently overdrawn and need to have more funds placed in them. To avoid this issue in the future, you can update your settings so the service will automatically email you when your account is low on funds. Overdrawn accounts hold up the lunch lines for everyone as they require special administrative permissions to receive their lunches. Please make sure you maintain a positive balance in your account to stop this from happening in the future!

The menus for lunches will be posted on the school's website starting next week.
5. Roar Store News
New school spirit items are being developed and should be available in the next couple of weeks. The Roar Store also offers a limited selection of school supplies such as composition and spiral notebooks, index cards, pens and pencils, binder and graph paper, as well as microwavable lunch items, snacks and drinks. Stop by and check out the Roar Store. The store is open every day before school and during lunch.
6. Electronics Recycling
Don't toss out those old phones, computers, or ink cartridges! This year, Pope John is collecting used electronics, ink cartridges, and jewelry for recycling and will receive fundraising dollars for the technology department for every item donated. Bring your items to the business office and drop them off in the marked box! Every little bit helps both the school and the environment. Contact Gillian Kruse at gkruse@pj23.org for more information.
