EPA Expands List of ODS Substitutes

EPA recently added 29 substitutes to the list of acceptable substitutes for ozone depleting substances (ODSs) (October 21, 2014, 79 FR 62863). Under the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program, EPA produces lists of substitutes for Class I and Class II ODSs that are being phased out under the stratospheric ozone protection provisions of the Clean Air Act. Once the EPA has evaluated and determined substitutes it lists those substitutes that are acceptable, acceptable subject to narrowed use limits or acceptable subject to use conditions.

Lists of substitutes, including those that were found to be unacceptable, are updated several times each year by the EPA for each SNAP industrial sector and are available online at:  http://www.epa.gov/spdpublc/snap/lists/index.html.
