VERENA'S GIFT OF HEALTH
Greetings!

Gift of Health 10 day Community Spring Cleanse Day 8

Helping our natural digestion

How can we help the digestion and absorption of the wonderful foods we are eating? Our natural digestion system is coming into balance through this cleanse. If we need help this week - or anytime - there are a few ways that can support our digestion. Yesterday I mentioned apple cider vinegar in warm water to drink in the morning - or even more frequently throughout the day - to help alkalize the body and remove biofilm and sludge.

Our age also affects our digestion. When we are young we have a lot of enzymes in our gut and later on in life we have distinctly less. So how do we help?  Eating yogurt is what many people do with the intent of delivering probiotics to the system. On our dairy free diet this week without yogurt, here are a few solutions:
  • Fermented vegetables: For the last few days you can certainly purchase organic fermented veggies in a jar.  You can also make your own which is even better. I provided a recipe earlier in the week. All it takes is cutting up veggies, salting them and keeping them at room temperature in a jar for 2-3 days.
  • Probiotics:  You can certainly take probiotics to replace those that you would get through eating biological yogurt. The probiotic market is huge (and quite unregulated).  Certain companies have a longstanding good reputation including Metagenics, Jarrow and Biotech Research.
  • Food Combining:  We have made so many good changes this week.  By omitting dairy and grains and sugar, we naturally have leaned toward correct food combinations. Often mixing dairy and fruit and protein can upset the system. Proteins and greens/veggies are a great food combination which should not put any further burden on our digestive systems.
  • Water:  Shall I say it again? Lots of water is essential to our digestive process. Drink half your body weight in ounces per day. 6-10 glasses a day!
  • Pause:  If we take our time to eat, it helps with our digestion. Stop for a moment before we eat. Take a deep breath. Attempt to eat slower, not on the run. Chew as long as we can without getting that distinct cow/camel feeling.

Hopefully these are a few ideas that can help you come toward the end of the cleanse and carry on in your every day habits moving forward.  Let's enjoy the last few days.

Yours in health,
Verena
