Minister of Music: Steven Howell

On October 18th, our church family voted and overwhelmingly affirmed God's call for Steven Howell to serve as our new Minister of Music. Steven officially began his new role with us on October 28th and led the worship service the following Sunday on November 1st.

Steven has extensive experience in music ministry spanning three different states (Missouri, Washington, and California) over a period of more than 15 years. He received his BA in Music from Truman State University and his MA in Worship Leadership from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Steven and his wife, Grace, and their two sons, Nathan and Caleb, hail from the great state of Missouri and currently reside in Mill Valley where Steven is finishing up his M.Div. degree at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Please welcome the Howell family and continue to pray for them as they adjust to this new calling on their lives.
Greetings from Pastor John!

Pastor John Shouse sends his warmest greetings and would like to share with you some of his travels and academic endeavors. From October 19th through the 21st, Pastor John was a keynote speaker at the prestigious Hayward Lectures at Acadia Divinity College in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Pastor John lectured on the drama of worship and delivered the homily on worshiping the Triune God.

The Hayward Lectures is an annual lectureship in theology and related subjects endowed by the late C.C. Hayward of Wolfville. Since the lectureship began in 1964, Acadia has welcomed such distinguished guests as James Dunn, N.T. Wright, Cristopher Seitz, Emanuel Tov, Stanley Porter, John Webster, Craig Evans, William Brackney, I. Howard Marshall, and many others.

Pastor John is still very busy as he prepares to present his professional paper on Christianity and Islam at the Evangelical Theological Society in Atlanta, GA, in late November. So let us all continue to lift up Pastor John and Stephanie in prayer for strength as they work through this time of transition and new chapter in their lives.
Stewardship Committee: 2016 Budget Vote

Praise the Lord for His goodness and abundant blessings! We send our thanks to those who turned in a commitment pledge card for 2016 and contributed to the second highest amount of committed pledges in 22 years!

The Stewardship Committee distributed a recommended budget for 2016 to the church on October 22nd. The church family met and discussed the 2016 budget on November 1st. After the amendments had been made and all questions had been asked, the 2016 budget is now ready to be voted upon by the members of TBC on November 8th. Please be here during the worship services to cast your ballot.
Help the Victims of the Lake County Fire

The Valley Fire that devastated much of Lake County in September 2015 destroyed more than 1,300 homes. At least 150 of those homes belonged to the families of students from Middletown High School.

Help us gather gift cards that will be given to the students to replace some of what was lost in the fire. There will be a tree in the gallery from November 8th to the 22nd with tags showing the gift cards needed. Please stop by and take a tag, or 2 or 3, purchase the gift card on the tag, and bring it back to TBC by November 22nd. If you have any questions please contact Alice Fort ([email protected]).

Ordination Service - Nov. 15th

Please be here for the Ordination Service on November 15th at 5:00 p.m. for Dennis Pratt who is being ordained to the Christian ministry. Dennis gave his testimony on October 11th during the worship services and then presented the Gospel of Jesus Christ at the Prayer Meeting on October 14th. The Ordination Council met on October 25th and, following Dennis' interview, unanimously recommended Dennis for ordination to the Christian ministry. On November 1st, the church body voted and approved the recommendation by the Ordination Council. Dennis is answering God's call to serve as an addiction counselor and rely on the power of God and the Gospel to bring healing in people's lives. Please pray for Dennis and his wife, Barbara, as they depend on God to direct their paths.

Thanksgiving Service & Harvest Dinner - Nov. 22nd

Please join us on November 22nd for our church family's annual Thanksgiving Service and Harvest Dinner!

The Thanksgiving Service will begin at 5:00 p.m. and it is one of the most joyful services you will ever attend! It is simply a time of voicing the many blessings that God has given to us throughout this year and sharing in the celebration with one another. And then immediately following the service, we will gather in the Fellowship Hall to have a wonderful dinner at 6:00 p.m. We send an extra special praise to God for Carol Jackson and her assistants who prepare the meal and set the beautiful tables. Please see Carol to purchase tickets for the Harvest Dinner. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $1.50 for children ages 4-12. Children under 4 may enjoy the dinner at no cost.
Operation Christmas Child

A small shoebox can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. Be a part of changing children's lives all over the world in Jesus' name through the power of a simple gift with Operation Christmas Child. Join others at TBC and over 80,000 churches across our country in sending a shoebox to children in need around the globe. Boxes are filled with toys and school supplies. Most importantly, they are delivered with love and the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and covered throughout in prayer.

Come by the table in the gallery to pick up a box and instructions on how to fill it. Then bring your full and labelled box (along with $7 for shipping) to TBC. The last day to drop off a box is November 22nd (Sunday). If you have any questions, please contact Susan Butler.

Take a moment to watch this video about Operation Christmas Child and be sure to pray for this mission and the hearts of those who will be transformed by the gift of God's love!
Turkey Bowl - Nov. 25th

What started as a small youth event has turned into a church-wide Thanksgiving tradition for the whole family. Join us on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (November 25th) for a fun-filled evening of bowling and fellowship.

Bowling is not required! Come and sit and chat with friends and college kids who will be back in town. Stay tuned for more details and please see Chris Harrold for more information.
Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

With Christmas quickly approaching, we are reminded of the missionaries around the world who need our prayers and financial support. The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is an annual collection that sends 100% of the funds to support international missionaries and their ministries. Please watch this video and follow this link to learn more about the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering and how it is used to further God's Kingdom here on earth.

Our church has set a goal of $25,000 to be collected for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, with a challenge of $30,000. Please pray for God's power and glory to be manifested through this year's Lottie Moon Christmas Offering so that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is shared throughout the world and that God will work through the missionaries to meet the human needs of those who are suffering. And then ask God to direct you as to how you can contribute and participate.

Help Us Decorate for Christmas

There is no better way to get into the Christmas holiday cheer than to set up Christmas decorations! Starting on November 28th, you can join in the fun of decorating the church for Christmas! Please go to the table in the TBC gallery to sign-up for a day and time that you will be here to help.

You also have the opportunity to purchase a poinsettia to be used to beautify the church sanctuary and gallery! You may purchase a poinsettia in the memory of a loved one or to honor or express appreciation for a person. Poinsettias can be purchased for $8.00 each. Look in the worship service bulletins throughout November for the order forms.

For more information about both the Christmas decoration sign-ups and poinsettia purchases, please see Ann Smith.

This will be a time when we can all sing together and lift our joyful voices in celebration of the birth of our Savior, Christ Jesus our Lord! There will be a light reception afterwards to allow for welcoming guests and making new friendships.

Word of Encouragement
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into His presence with singing! Know that the Lord, He is God! It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name! For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.

- Psalm 100:1-5
