Tiburon Baptist Church

April 2015

The Tiburon Tidings eNewsletter
It is pretty easy to be Christian on Sundays, especially when that includes attendance in worship and Bible study. However, Monday through Saturday presents quite a different challenge. Our lives get back to what we refer to as normal with work, school, preparing meals, doing homework, working out, going to meetings, relaxing, entertainment, and other things that demand our time. But what about our walk with God between Sundays?

It is more difficult to practice spiritual growth than to teach it. In a recent article entitled, Walking With God Between Sundays, LifeWay Associate VP Mark Dance offers six practical ideas to assist our walk with Christ throughout the week.

1. Make Jesus the first appointment of each day. Put Him in your calendar and protect that daily appointment just like you would for anyone else. He's expecting you.

2. Regularly change your routine with God. Go on a walk with God through the park or find a quiet place and have lunch with Him. Avoid the mundane. Make every encounter with God an adventure.

3. Read Scripture you're not teaching. Spend focused time just for you in God's Word. There are several reading plans and smartphone apps for direction. Get started.

4. Read books you're not teaching. Read something for yourself. There are tons of great reading out there and some that are not so good. Listen for referrals from your friends and share what you're reading with others.

5. Join a small group Bible study you're not leading. Be a student and enter as the learner especially if you are normally the teacher. There are always more nuggets to mine as we explore the depths of Scriptures.

6. Write down your thoughts and prayers. Journaling allows for reflection time and opportunity to go back and continue long-term prayer concerns.

It is our prayer that you will not be content with a couple of hours on Sunday morning. Make a plan to spend time with God throughout your week. There is NOTHING more important in life than your relationship to God through Christ.
Youth Happenings!
The Youth Guy's-n-Girl's Night Out and trip to Scandia in Rohnert Park was a blast. This month we'll head to Open Door on April 24th and start planning for the summer Adventure Camp in Truckee. We hope your teenagers will join us each Sunday morning for Bible study at 9:40. Contact Tyler for details.

Annie Armstrong Easter Offering & FTWFU
The annual offering that supports our national church planting and evangelism efforts across the United States comes each year during our Easter season. The national goal for this year is $60 million. Our TBC goal is $2000. We will be sharing stories during the weeks leading up to Easter related to our efforts to share the love of Jesus with America. Begin praying for our home missionaries and for what the Lord will lay on your heart to support this offering.
In addition, every dollar we raise over $2000 will go toward our summer Feed Those Who Feed Us project in Davis.
Men's Retreat at Camp Cazadero
Recreated in God's Image is the theme for this years men's retreat at Camp Cazadero on April 17-18. Our speakers will include Rich Johnstone, the Send City Director for the Bay Area, Pastor Glenn, and some testimonies from some of our men. Worship will be led by Dan Webb & Daniel Choi. This is the men's primary event for the year, so we want to encourage you to come and bring a friend who needs to get out of cell phone range and relax in the Redwoods.

We will depart Marin at 5 pm on Friday, April 17, and end with dinner on Saturday, returning home in a little over 24 hours. This always proves to be a valuable commitment of time as our guys are able to receive valuable teaching, worship our God, hear the testimonies of fellow travelers on the Christian journey, and enjoy the beauty of God's marvelous creation at the camp.

We hope you will join us. The cost is $95, but don't let money be your issue for not coming. Scholarships are available. For more details see Eric K, Dan M, or Andrew G.

Tapestry Women's Conference
Golden Gate Seminary will host this years women's conference sponsored by our California Southern Baptist Convention. The dates are April 24 & 25, beginning on Friday evening. The cost is $75 if you pre-register or $85 at the door. Visit the Women's Ministry table in the gallery for further information regarding registration and workshop topics.  See Janet Prescott for details.
Reception for Beth Singleton
Make plans to join us on Sunday, April 26, as we celebrate Beth's 30 years of amazing contribution to TBC's music ministry. Following the morning services on that day, we will gather for a time of recognition and celebration during a reception held in her honor. We hope you will join us. You're invited to bring cards to express your gratitude and love.
Thank You from Gambo Dakwakas
Gambo's family has arrived. We are grateful for the outpouring of love that has been shown by the TBC family. Gambo wants to share his appreciation in the following note:

I am overwhelmed by the expression of love to me at Tiburon Baptist Church. Besides the Church's concern for my family to join me at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary and the Church from Nigeria, you stood by me in prayers and again gave out of your resources to assist me with my family's travel and the setup of our home on campus. I am thankful

As they adjust to life in America, continue to pray for Lekkyes and Kwoopnan as they adjust to life at Tam High and Mill Valley Middle School. Also pray for their daughter, Leknan, who is a med student at University of Jos in Nigeria. And we hope you will get to know Gambo's wife, Phoebe. Blessings on one of our newest families.
Pastor Glenn's Announcement - Updated
At the February Family Meeting, Pastor Glenn announced that he had been invited to move south with the seminary move to Ontario in the summer of 2016.

After a visit to Southern California, the Academic Dean met with the President to discuss the enormity of the task that will be a part of Pastor Glenn's new job. They made the decision to adjust the date for becoming full-time in order to allow for time in developing partnerships with the churches around the new seminary campus and extended the invitation. Pastor Glenn accepted this invitation and has moved his departure date from TBC to May 31, 2015.

Word of Encouragement

He was oppressed and afflicted,
    yet he did not open his mouth;
he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
By oppression and judgment he was taken away.
Yet who of his generation protested?
For he was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgression of my people he was punished.
