Oh, that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes! - Psalms 119:5

Railroad tracks are meant to be in alignment. That's how the train stays on the tracks. To keep the train rolling, the rails need to be perfectly parallel. But on a foggy night in 1993, some tracks were knocked out of alignment. A barge was being pulled up the Tensaw River in southern Alabama, but because of the dense mist, the pilot of the towboat had become disoriented and didn't know that he had entered the Big Bayou Canot. The radar was working on the boat but unfortunately, the pilot hadn't been trained in its use. When the barge hit the railroad bridge that crossed over the waterway, the rails became misaligned. And so, eight minutes later, when an Amtrak train hit the bridge at a high speed, it flew off the tracks. A total of 47 people were killed and 103 injured, making this the worst accident in the railroad's history.

In a similar way, your inner life is supposed to be aligned with your actions. The beliefs you hold should be paralleled by your conduct. For example, you say that God is holy and that His ways are perfect, so your life should attempt to be an imitation of Him. Everything He says is good, you embrace; everything He says is wrong, you avoid. Another good example is prayer. The Lord tells you not to worry about anything but to pray about every issue in your life. So you do it. But as you and I know, our behavior doesn't always align with what we believe. The consequences of a misaligned life can be disastrous.

So how can you make sure your inner life and outer life remain in alignment? First of all, stay on course and don't let sin dislodge you from your moorings. Don't go places in your mind, in your feelings, in your actions where God has told you not to venture. Those uncharted pathways are called sin and they are dangerous. But how can you avoid those murky waters? Sometimes it's hard to see. Life is foggy and we can lose our way. That's when you need to know how to use your direction finder, the Bible. It will never lead you down the wrong pathway.

Do you sense that things are not as they should be, that your actions and attitudes don't line up with your professed faith? Before you have a serious calamity, take the time to bring your conduct back in line with biblical truth. The life you save may be your own.

Letter to TBC from Ida

Dear TBC Family, I am eternally grateful to have spent the last six years here at Tiburon Baptist as your Administrative Assistant. This position has been more than merely employment but a ministry for me as I have served on your behalf in the name of Jesus Christ.

The privilege to work with a generous, compassionate, caring ministerial staff helped to make this work more meaningful. Their support of my professional and personal accomplishments is genuine and a true act of Christian love. Certainly, I could not have grown spiritually or personally without the support of this church family. Over the years you have welcomed me as a member of your family and I am so thankful for your kindness. May the Lord continue to shine His love upon you.

I believe God's plan and purpose for my life is to serve a "cup of cold water," in His name to the lowly. Recently I accepted a position as a Family Coach with 2 Gen Equity, a startup non-profit organization in San Francisco.

2 Gen Equity is a career and life development program that provides single mothers with the hard and soft resources necessary to transition their family from poverty to self-sufficiency. Our goal is to end the cycle of poverty through a two-generation approach, motivating single mothers and their children to successfully overcome the systemic social and financial barriers that perpetuate poverty. As their Family Coach I will help in the development of her life plan, connect her to needed services to achieve this plan, advocate, and model appropriate parent and child interactions.

As I embark on this new endeavor I petition your prayers. If you are interested in learning how you may help in this work please feel free to email me or call my direct line at (415) 348-4606. I am comforted by the scripture, which says, with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26b

Tiburon Baptist Church, I extend a heart of Christian Love to you!

Comings and Goings at TBC
As we say good-by to Ida Times and pray for her new work in the city, we say welcome to Mrs. Pashia Greene. On Sunday, Feb 8th, we will honor Ida for her years of faithful service in both morning services. Following the 11 am service, we will have a reception in her honor. Also with us that day will be our new administrative assistant, Pashia Greene. She will be accompanied by her husband and her three children. We hope you will be present to honor Ida and to say hello to Pashia as she begins her new role.
Potluck & Family Meeting
Bring your favorite dish to share and join us for our quarterly meal and business session on Sunday, Feb 8, beginning at 5:30 pm. You will get a report of what's happening at Tiburon and share in the fellowship with other friends and members of your church. See you on Sunday!
GGBTS Missions Conference Plus . . . .
You've heard that Todd Lafferty will be the keynote speaker for The Nations Are Calling, during the upcoming missions conference hosted by the seminary on Feb 20-21. We also wanted to let you know that he will be speaking at TBC on Sunday, Feb 22, in both morning services and in a special class in the sanctuary during the Bible Study hour.
Asante Choir
We will once again host the Asante Choir. This traveling children's choir from Rwanda will move you as they sing and dance. If you've seen them in previous years, you won't want to miss them on Sunday, Feb 22, at 5 pm. Invite your friends and neighbors for this stop on their musical tour in the United States. You will also learn about the ministry that they represent back in Rwanda.

We hope you will join us for this special evening. If you would like to help house a part of the group on Feb 21 & 22, email Don Comfort by clicking here
On Target Evangelism Event
We will be heading to Tracy for the annual On Target Evangelism Rally on Monday, Feb 23rd. This is sponsored by our California Southern Baptist Convention. In order to get through rush hour traffic, we will be leaving early to mid afternoon. We will provide more details, but if you are interested in going with Pastors Glenn & Brice, let us know.
BASS Conference - March 5-7
We are registered as a church for the Bay Area Sunday School Conference. Don't let the name fool you. There is no fishing required. There will be workshops for virtually every type of ministry and committee in the church to help us do a more effective job in doing what God has called us to do. Since we are registered as a church, you pay nothing at the door. We hope you will review the schedule and take advantage of this once-a-year opportunity to be better equipped for the ministry in which you currently serve. See Pastors Brice or Glenn for more details. Click here to check out the workshop listing. When you go to register for the Express Pass, the code for TBC is UBWXR.
Mt Hermon Women's Retreat

On the weekend of Mar 6-8, you are invited to join several women from TBC at the Mount Hermon Women's Spring Reflective retreat.

As the winter season gives way into spring, new life begins to push it's way into view. Paying attention to what is growing beneath the cover of winter and nurturing it's growth often takes time; time to be quiet, time to listen, time to rest. The Mount Hermon Spring Reflective Retreat offers you the opportunity to spend time paying attention to your soul. Unlike other women's retreats, the Mount Hermon reflective retreats are designed to provide a quantity of time alone with the Lord.

While this retreat is designed to provide the space and quiet to nurture the soul, there are also ample opportunities for fellowship with like-minded women around great meals and free time. Mount Hermon's adventure facilities and popular recreation options like ocean kayaking are an option as part of your program.

Word of Encouragement

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death-even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.
