Lottie Moon Christmas Offering
Each year we emphasize and talk about the International Mission Board and the offering we take in December. We are grateful for your missions heart as we give to reach our TBC goal of $20,000 that will go towards our national goal of $175 million. Some of you are not familiar with the history of the IMB, so we want to give you a brief glimpse of some of the history that makes us Southern Baptist.
  • May 10, 1845 The Southern Baptist Convention is formed in order for churches to do missions more effectively. At the first convention, it establishes the Domestic Mission Board and the Foreign Mission Board (FMB) as part of "one sacred effort, for the propagation of the Gospel." The headquarters for the FMB are placed in Richmond, Virginia.
  • June 30, 1845 China is chosen as the first foreign mission field. In September, Samuel C. Clopton is appointed as the first Southern Baptist missionary.
  • Jan. 5, 1846 James B. Taylor is appointed the first Corresponding Secretary for FMB. He serves until 1871.
  • March 5, 1849 FMB appoints its first single woman missionary, Harriet A. Baker.
  • 1861-1865 During the Civil War, FMB continues limited operations in China and Africa. In 1861, missionary J. Landrum Holmes is killed during the Tai Ping in China - the first FMB missionary murdered on the field.
  • July 7, 1873 FMB appoints Charlotte D. "Lottie" Moon of Virginia to China. She served until her death on Dec. 24, 1912. In Dec. 1888, Woman's Missionary Union solicits funds for the first Christmas offering for foreign missions, at the suggestion of Lottie Moon.
  • 1929-1943 FMB survives, but financially struggles, during the Great Depression and World War II. Trustees reiterate their loyalty to the Cooperative Program and global mission expansion.
  • Oct. 11, 1955 The missionary force exceeds 1,000 for the first time.
  • Jan. 1959 FMB moves into its new headquarters at 3806 Monument Avenue, Richmond, Virginia, where it still operates today.
  • April 9, 1984 The first career missionary orientation sessions begin at the new Baker James Cauthen and Eloise Glass Cauthen Missionary Learning Center in Rockville, Virginia. Today it is still in operation and called the International Learning Center.
  • June 18, 1997 The Southern Baptist Convention recommends the Foreign Mission Board change its name to the International Mission Board (IMB).
  • 2003 IMB missionaries focus strategically on church-planting movements among people groups and begin work with other Great Commission Christians to engage more than 6,000 unreached peoples.
  • Today Southern Baptists continue their strong commitment to join the Author of history in His redemptive movement to advance His Gospel among all peoples.
It is our prayer that you will continue to support missions as we pray, give, and go to the ends of the earth. As of today, we have given over $10,000 toward our Lottie Moon goal. Won't you join us in this effort.
On Our Way To Bethlehem
The Christmas Music Festival will again feature our children and youth musicians retelling the story of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus. You're invited to join us on Sun, Dec 7, at 5 pm as we celebrate Christmas with our young musicians. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to share your church with your friends and neighbors who have young children.
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?
On Wednesday, Dec 10th at 5:30 pm, we anticipate a visit from our old friend in a red suit and white beard and some of his helpers. We hope you will join us for the last Wed night dinner of the year as we celebrate with our children.
The First Noel
Our Community Christmas Musical will feature our adult choir, drama team, children's choir, and a professional orchestra. Join us for one of two performances on Dec 14th at 4 pm or 6 pm. We will host a reception with holiday goodies after the 6 pm performance. Invite your friends and family to this holiday experience. And make sure to come early as this event historically proves to fill the sanctuary.
Operation Christmas Child
We wanted to give a big thanks for your generous contribution to this year's OCC project. We were able to deliver 94 boxes this year. These small boxes will truly make a huge difference in the lives of boys and girls all over the world.
THANK YOU!
A special thanks to Susan Butler for coordinating this effort.
Harvest Dinner & Christmas Decor Thanks
A very special thanks goes out to Carol Jackson and her fabulous group of helpers as we enjoyed another wonderful evening of great food during the recent Harvest Dinner. And a big shout out to Ann Smith and her elves for all of their great work in decorating the church for the Christmas season and setting the festive mood.
What's Happening in the Youth Group?
The search for a new youth minister is underway. The committee presented Tyler Sanders as our interim leader during this search process. Tyler has been at TBC working with our youth for the past three years and we are grateful to God for his leadership during this search. We ask for your prayers for Tyler as he leads our youth during this time of transition. And in the midst of Lottie Moon season, click here and share this with your teenager.
Worshipping with your Children
If you missed the worship helps that we are producing for you and your kids, here it is again. Including our children in worship is a part of the ethos of TBC. We feel it is important for children to learn Big Church from firsthand experience. This series of worship helps and suggestions are being created to encourage you and your children. You can access these by clicking here. See Pastor Brice for more details.

Word of Encouragement

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder. For as in the day of Midian's defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor. Every warrior's boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor,  Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
