Tiburon Baptist Church

October 2013

The Tiburon Tidings eNewsletter

On Thursday, Aug 29, Dr. Jeff Iorg gave the President's Convocation address at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He began the message by saying, "events of this past summer mandate a message in response to the most significant change in American society since abortion on demand was legalized in 1973". Some of you have already heard this important message, but if not click here to view this 30-minute video that will be time well spent.

On Thursday, Oct 3, the seminary will host a day long conference on this very important subject. There are over 150 off campus folks already registered plus the campus population. The lunch and Q&A session is sold out, but there is room for you to squeeze in for the conference and the cost is $10. Seminary students may attend the sessions for free. Register by clicking here. Everything starts at 9am.

The church must be prepared to reach out to all people and share the love of Christ that we boldly proclaim. Are you prepared to be salt and light in our community with an understanding that what is biblically wrong can never be politically correct, legally right, or a strategic part of healthy church life (from Ministry in the New Marriage Culture).
TBC Fall Book Study
kellerOur six-week The Reason for God study begins this Sunday and continues in various places all over the county next week. Groups are formed, but it is not too late to join. Stop by the table in the gallery on Sunday and pick a group near you. If you have any questions, see Eric Kwok, Pastor Brice, or Pastor Glenn. The books are in and we will try to get them distributed on or before Sunday. The cost for books is $9. This video guided discussion will prove to be a valuable learning experience for us all. We hope you join us.
Youth & Other Miscellaneous Youth Stuff
maze
On Friday, Oct 25th, the youth will head to one of the local corn mazes for an evening of fun. This is your great opportunity to bring a friend and have fellowship with the whole gang. Pastor Steve will share all the details very soon. Stay tuned. Youth are also invited to join us on Sunday evenings as we look at the questions being raised in The Reason for God study. Oh yeah, we also hang out on Wed for Youth Upstairs.

Parents, if you have a teenager that is not involved with our youth, we encourage you to introduce yourself to Steve and the other youth leaders and then be the encouragement to your teenager to get involved with our youth group.

Operation  Christmas Child
As we prepare for the Christmas holidays later this year, we want you to be aware that TBC will be doing our part in bringing a ray of sunshine into the lives of children from all around the world. We will join with Samaritan's Purse in this year's Operation Christmas Child project. Stay tuned for more details in how you can be a part of this ministry to touch the children of our world with God's love.
Lunch and a Community Prayerwalk

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. I so love James 5:16 in the King James Version. The New Living Translation says, the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. Either way, I think you get the idea of what James was saying. If our lives are right before the Lord, our prayers are powerful and much can be accomplished.

On Sunday, Oct 27, we plan to have lunch right after the 11:00 service for the whole church. We will then gather in small groups all over the county, many of you very near your own neighborhoods, to pray for our community. We will prayerwalk in small groups of 3-4 people each in a variety of key locations.

We will be enlisting leaders for each small group and during lunch, will have a brief time of training. Prayerwalk Rule #1 - keep your eyes open while you pray. That may sound like a joke, but we will be praying on sight with insight. This is the important stuff of life. We hope you will plan to join us. If you would like to lead or determine a particular part of the community in which you want to pray, see Pastor Brice. More details will be forthcoming.
Raising Deep Roots
deep roots
It's October friends!  Let me guess.. your kids are already wearing their Halloween costumes around the house?  Our costumes are ordered but we await shipment and so my boys are instead squeezing themselves into one size too small costumes and running around roaring like lions, squeaking like bats, wielding swords as noble knights, and rattling their skeleton bones! Help for Wellness
Help for Wellness has been meeting at TBC for over a year and is starting another group for long term weight control using biblical truth.  The group will meet Thursdays from 12:15-1:15 at Golden Gate Academy on the GGBTS campus.  Cost is $30 month, month to month with a one time $40 material fee.  Contact Lisa Murphy, LCSW, at 415-730-3679 or email her by clicking here.
California Southern Baptist e-Edition
The e-edition of the California Southern Baptist paper is now available every month in the Tidings. Simply click here to read the October issue.

September was also our California Mission Offering month. You responded in typical TBC fashion and we exceeded our goal of $2000 by raising over $3300. Thank you for your faithfulness and as Dr. Whittaker says, for helping spread the love of Jesus with every man, woman, boy, and girl across the state of California.

Word of Encouragement
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
