Greetings!
In 2000 Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, and Haley Joel Osment starred in Pay It Forward. The film was based on the novel of the same name and told the story of a small boy who turned a school project into a charitable program of good deeds to make a difference in the world. He did not know the ripple effect his action would have.
As we enter the Christmas season, the time of the year that we focus on giving and receiving, let's play a game of What If. Just for a moment, consider what would happen if we made some subtle and some not so subtle changes in our thoughts and actions.
What if we put God's will above our own? What if we read our Bible on a daily basis? What if we prayed without ceasing? What if we attended church regularly? What if we stopped tipping God and gave sacrificially even beyond 10%? What if we fasted on a regular basis? What if we practiced forgiveness daily? What if we loved God with all our heart, soul, body, and mind?
What if our family reached out to a family of equal size during 2013 and everyone at TBC did the same? We would be running over 500 this time next year. Where would we put everybody? Don't panic. Remember this is just a game.
What if we laid our personal desires aside and became the father, mother, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, grandmother, grandfather, friend, co-worker, subordinate, boss, or neighbor that God desires you to be? What if we really loved our neighbor as ourselves? What would that look like?
What if we truly emptied ourselves, took the focus off of self, and laid all of our concerns aside for just a moment? What if we put our wants and needs on hold? What if we stepped away from the mirror where we seem to spend so much time and focused on everyone else?
Life is not about our comfort or accomplishments or needs. It is all about God's glory. In a given day do I think more about God or about myself. What I will wear, where I will go, what I will do, what I will eat, what I will . . . . .
Jesus said, For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. But, don't worry because no one takes this type of statement literally. Jesus didn't really mean that we actually have to lose our life. Or did he?
And remember, this was just pretend. Or is it? What kind of ripple could your life make? |

A Special Holiday Thanks
We want to say a big Tiburon thanks to Beth, Cecile, Jennifer, Carlena and what seems to be a cast of thousands that helped corral the excitement of our children during our recent Christmas Music Festival. The costumes were fantastic and the musical talents of our children were never better. What a testimony of hard work and preparation. We were all blessed in such a marvelous way. This often times appears to be organized chaos, but the seeds that are being planted in the hearts and minds of our little ones will see fruit for years to come and even into eternity. To all the parents and adult leaders, many thanks. And blessings to our kids.

Women's Christmas Teas
Our women's ministry invites you to attend one of the teas that will take place on Saturday, Dec 15, from 2-4 pm in several Bay Area homes. The theme for this year is Unwrapping the Gift of Christ. Stop by the table in the Gallery on Sunday to sign up. What an opportunity to invite a friend to introduce to other women of the church during this holiday season. See you on the 15th. |
Lottie Moon Christmas Offering Update
Hopefully by now, you know that our goal is $20,000 and the National goal is $175 million. To date, we have received over $6,000. You have heard from eight of our missionaries over the past month. It is our prayer that we will continue to move toward reaching our goal during the month of December. Please pray for your involvement as we support nearly 5000 missionaries worldwide. What will you do to share the good news of Jesus with the whole world?

Christmas Eve at TBC
One of the special services looked forward to each year is Christmas Eve. A couple of years ago we started a 5 pm interactive service for families with smaller children. We continue that tradition this year. At 7 pm, we will have our family candlelight service. With many out-of-town family and guests, this service is a favorite time to focus on the gift of love we have in Christ. It is our prayer that you will join us for this special evening for either service.

Word of Encouragement The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder. For as in the day of Midian's defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor. Every warrior's boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
