I asked Annemarie what I should talk about on my boss's corner and she was very definite about it: "Let everyone know we are still open and will be until at least Thanksgiving." That is good advice and I think I will mention it here. Our hours now are from 10 to 5. One reason that it looks like we will be open until Thanksgiving is because of the weather. Except for tomorrow, when it will be nasty out, it looks like relatively pleasant November weather at least until Thanksgiving.
This last week we planted our garlic and finished digging our potatoes. By next weekend I hope to have a You Tube video out showing how we harvest our potatoes. Keep in mind that we now have two You Tube channels:
youtube.com/magiclandfarms,com and
youtube.com/coolcontraptionguy. In addition to the video on harvesting potatoes, I am hard at work on another video for my
Cool Contraption Guy Channel. It has to do with making a working boomerang from two paint stirring sticks. That boomerang is really a lot of fun and you can even make it without spending a penny! A video is included which shows two of my kids throwing the boomerang. This video should be out in a few days.
We still have a good supply of winter squash, potatoes, rutabaga and sugar pumpkins and a fair supply of our own popcorn on the ear and shelled in jars. We also have natural decorations, such as gourds, small pumpkins and Indian corn Thanksgiving. In addition, we still have a few hardy pecan trees for sale, the grandparents of which came from southeast Wisconsin, which is the farthest north native pecan trees were found.
Fishing Report For Pickerel and Kimbal Lakes:
Northern Pike are still on a feeding spree. I never saw so much action in November. The only problem most are between 20 and 24 inches long--legal size is 24 inches. We did get a 26 incher today that weighed over 4 pounds, it's now in the freezer! Maybe next time we will hook into one of those 25 pounders. Those suckers are nearly impossible to bring in if you are using light tackle.
