Greetings!

      Hi,

This past weekend was a rare romantic one for myself and Annemarie since in order to celebrate her ahmm birthday we spent the weekend together in Ludington. We left the kids at home so they could take care of our wonderful customers Friday and Saturday.  Thank you kids!
We stayed at the Viking Arms Motel in Ludington, which we can recommend to anyone who wants a reasonably priced nice place to stay in Ludington.  We also ate our Saturday night dinner at Scotty's which is within walking distance of the motel.  Annemarie had the apple, cherry stuffed chicken breast stuffed with apple, cherry and bacon.  I had the filet.  Both were excellent and Annemarie said her stuffed chicken breast was the best she ever had!

Since we had heard that the Lake Michigan lakeshore area of Northern Michigan actually had a apple crop, albeit small, we decided to stop at a farm market while we were in the area.  We chose the Orchard Market in Ludington since they grew their own apples north of Ludington.  We purchased a half bushel of Jonagold and a half bushel of Idared.  The price was $17.99 a half bushel.  They didn't have enough Jonathans to sell by the half-bushel only by the 1/2 peck.

The weather both Friday and Saturday was variable with a few showers off and on and temperatures in the 50s.  Like usual it was breezy at the Lake Michigan shore.

We visited Father Pere Marquette' s Memorial and the Ludington State Park.  That State Park is awesome!  It is really big, there are a lot of things to do and see and, as you would expect from a great park, it was quite busy with people and activities even though the weather was not perfect. It was also very clean--even the rest rooms were nice and clean.

Since I have been away since late Thursday, I'm not exactly sure what's going on at the farm.  However I know we still have a plentiful supply of winter squash, pumpkins, potatoes, gourds, rutabaga and tomatoes. See our Hi-Lites ad for special deals this week.
