Greetings!
Memorials. Those representations that bring to our remembrance things of importance. Whether they affect us personally or in general, these symbols aid us in reflecting on certain events that are thought-provoking and help us understand the meaning behind them.
I have seen quite a few of these memorials in the past few weeks. To witness these replicas helped me to make a connection with those who have come before me and inspire me to pass on the message they have come to represent. They all have stories to tell. For some, we have the actual facts. For many, their stories may have been embellished a bit, leaving the digging of the facts to us. I wonder if they had any idea how their stories would affect us today? Some of the events that these people experienced, to them, may have been just an everyday occurrence, yet it turned out to have a profound impact in the future. That future is here. They have entrusted their legacy to us, who in turn, have the power to share their stories, as well as ours.
It makes one wonder if our lives are creating stories for the future. Hmm.
Through the art of oral storytelling, Spellbinders®, an award-winning non-profit organization, enhances literacy, builds inter-generational community and develops character.

Story Sparks for November
| |
Transforming memories into stories!
November brings colder weather, possible snow, Election Day, Veteran's Day, and anticipation of families getting together.
Here are some sparks to help you recapture those elusive memories.
*Did your family celebrate with extended family? Was there a big meal? Where was it usually held?
*Do you have any cooking mishaps preparing for Thanksgiving?
*What was your favorite item on the menu?
*Did you have any special traditions for Thanksgiving?
*Did your parents participate in the election process? Did they teach you about what it meant?
*Was Veteran's Day celebrated in any special way?
*Did you live in a part of the country that might have lead to having off school due to snow?
*Who was your favorite relative? Who was your least favorite relative?
Think about these things, get some old photos out and/or bake a pumpkin pie to trigger deeper memories.
Then, TELL someone about what you recall.
Enjoy the holiday and the crisp weather!

Penny Stewart, long time educator and storyteller, presented a skill building activity called:
"Puppets Props Poems and Rhymes"
She shared experiences and many great ideas for enhancing our Storytelling. Penny reminds us that as busy as the school days are, the children still need to have some fun in the classroom! Thank you Penny, for the poem and song handouts, and for preparing this very helpful program!
Barbara Mack treated us to a very funny Halloween story called " Transylvania Vacation". Bob and Betty Hill have had a car accident while touring the countryside of that strange land. They seek help from the residents of a nearby creepy castle and its residents, the strange old Master and his assistant Igor. Barbara had us in stitches as she deftly donned a pair of googly-eyed glasses and popped in a set of spooky teeth when switching from character to character! Barbara sang the verse which revealed the pun and the joke brought another round of pealing laughter ! Thank you Barbara for sharing this story with such a generous spirit of fun! Transylvania Vacation Bob Hill and his new wife Betty were vacationing in Europe, as it happens, near Transylvania. They were driving in a rental car along
