Sweet Cherry Tomatoes!
Hi Kids,
It was great to see so many of you out this past weekend, even with the cooler weather! It's a good thing those colourful carrots do well in cooler temperatures!
This weekend is Victoria Weekend - the weekend that gardeners know it's finally safe to plant outside! This is the big weekend for planting tender TOMATOES! And we are going to continue learning about growing our own food by planting sweet cherry tomatoes and making a cute clip marker.
Hope to see you this weekend!
This Week's Activity

This weekend at Kid's Club we are planting sweet cherry tomatoes! These itty bitty tomatoes are delicious in salads, pasta, or eaten fresh from the garden! Once our tomato plant begins to grow, we can plant it in a bigger pot or in the garden (in the biodegradable pot) and enjoy yummy little tomatoes all summer long! We're also making a cute tomato clip marker to go with it!

Kid's Club runs this Saturday & Sunday from
10am - 4pm and is FREE for kids of all ages!

Growing Cherry Tomatoes

First of all, tomatoes don't like frost, so waiting until this weekend was really important! When your tomato plant reaches 6-10" tall you can plant it in the garden. Plant in full sun to light shade and well drained soil. Fertilize your tomatoes with a tomato fertilizer. As your tomato grows make sure to pinch off the suckers - these are new growth that appears where the branches meet the stalk or "V" off and they suck your plant of nutrients. You might need to stake your tomato plant once it gets bigger. Harvest often and enjoy!
