Hi Kids,
I was happy to see so many of you come out last weekend to make your Mom a gift for Mother's Day! 
This weekend, we're going to continue to learn about growing our own food...and we're going to have fun with our food by planting RAINBOW CARROTS!!
The seeds we plant will come up in unusual colour combinations and make eating our vegetables loads of fun!

This Week's Activity

This weekend at Kid's Club we are planting RAINBOW carrots! Once our carrot seeds begin to sprout (and the temperature warms up a  bit!) we can plant our carrots out in the garden or a larger patio pot and grow them outside! We will also be making a rainbow carrot identifier stake so we'll remember what we're planting!
 
Kid's Club runs this Saturday & Sunday from
10am - 4pm and is FREE for kids of all ages! 
Growing Colourful Carrots

The blend of carrots we're planting  include Atomic Red, Bambino, Cosmic Purple, Lunar White and Solar Yellow. Carrots will grow well in any open, well cultivated, garden soil. Plant seeds about 1/4-1/2" deep. Keep the seedbed evenly moist during the 2 week germination period. Thin the seedlings during the early stages of growth until they are 2" apart. Keep the plants evenly watered, weed free and avoid high nitrogen fertilizers. These carrots will probably take about 60 days to mature. Harvest any time after the carrot roots develop good colour.
