California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) New
Tues, Nov. 10 during tutorial
The CHKS is being administered to 11th grade students on Tuesday, November 10 during tutorial.
The CHKS is the largest statewide survey of resiliency, protective factors and risk behaviors in the nation and has led to a better understanding of the relationship between students' health behaviors and academic performances.   Palo Alto Unified School District utilizes CHKS to inform policies, practices and programs for our schools at site-level and also district-level.
On Tuesday, juniors will remain with their 6th period teacher to take the survey.  It is 56 questions and will take 30-45 minutes, depending on the person.  If juniors have a 6th period prep, they should to proceed to P2 right after lunch to take the survey.  It is important that all juniors participate in this survey since the data is used to make program decisions.  It is completely anonymous (no identifying data collected) so it must be done in one sitting.
Thank you, in advance, for your participation in this important survey as we work to create a happy, successful learning environment for all students.

Performing Arts Center Boosters New
The new Performing Arts Center is scheduled to open in the fall of 2016.  This new facility is a state-of-the-art 25,100 square foot theatre that will accommodate the three performing arts groups at Paly, and the 450 students per year that participate in them: drama, vocal music and instrumental music. It will also host assemblies, parent's meetings, and presentations.
The Paly Performing Arts Center Boosters group has been formed to raise funds for items that the staff has determined are necessary for the facility, but that fall outside of the scope of the bond funds, such as a grand piano, new risers for choir, new music stands and chairs, and additional wireless mics.
You can contribute to this effort by purchasing a seat with your name on it!  Please go to www.palypab.com for more information and you can make your donation there.

Stanford Sleep Study
Ongoing
We are currently conducting a study to help teens (14-18) go to bed earlier and wake up earlier.  The treatment involves use of a light device that is placed by the child's bedside and flashes periodically throughout the night. Teens also meet for four sessions with a licensed psychologist at Stanford University to learn about sleep and strategies to improve sleep. The paid study requires completing a sleep diary daily for five weeks. Please contact the Zeitzer Laboratory at teensleep@stanford.eduor (650) 725-7767.
